Yellow Riding Stud

Post by Honorable »

Yellow Riding Stud
In pursuit of the ideal yellow riding horse.
I had this idea a while back and wanted to see if I could make it work. I'm attempting to create a well-rounded yellow/gold riding horse that is not diluted by cream, pearl, or champagne. Ideally dun will also be excluded.

The Ideal
  • Breed: Grade
  • Color: The horse's coat should be yellow or gold. Shade can range from dark to very bright but should be clearly yellow and not dark gray or near white. Mane and tail can be any color.
  • Build: Horse type from Medium Light to Medium Heavy
  • Temperament: Any is fine but must be changeable.
  • Stats: Preference is given to the Hunter discipline so stats should focus first on Movement, followed by Strength, Tempo, and Balance.
  • Conformation: Slightly longer, flat face with a shallow jowl. Neck should be medium length. Well-sloped shoulders with a low point. Deep ribs and flank preferred. Medium flat haunches with a long hip. Thick legs with a slightly more back stifle. Longer back. Medium uphill build.
  • Heart: Horses must show at least some potential for heart. When better established each horse will be required to maintain a WPS of 70% or higher to be eligible for breeding.
Allowed Genes
  • Extension: Any.
  • Agouti: A+ is ideal, but A is permitted. Horses that express the at or a alleles are not permitted.
  • Champagne: Prohibited beyond F1 for now.
  • Cream/Pearl: Prohibited. Any horse found to carry a hidden pearl will be removed.
  • Dun: Currently permitted, though crossing of two dun horses is discouraged.
  • Grey: Prohibited.
  • Pangare: Allowed. Loud expression encouraged.
  • Roan: Allowed.
  • Silver: Being evaluated. Currently allowed.
  • Sooty: Allowed. Dapples preferred. Loud expression is discouraged.
  • Tiger Eye: Allowed but not encouraged.
  • Leopard: Prohibited
  • Tobiano: Leg markings up to high stockings are allowed but smaller socks are preferred. Stars, snips, blazes, and badger faces are allowed. Body white is prohibited.

Reserved posts are finished. Feel free to post with questions or just to chat. :)

Stallions

In Memoriam
These studs have naturally aged out of the program.

Tutorial Stud - AC Caspian
¤¥®¤ Step By Step - Tutorial Stud x ¤¥®¤ Dusk
Foundation
Stud 1

Przewalski
gg EE AA chch nn DD P? rr stysty zz Te? toto lplp
Intense pangare lightens his bay dan coat to a lovely shade. The hope is to eventually transfer this intense pangare expression onto foals that do not have dun.
Breeder's report is average. Movement comment is negative but other relative stats are average or better. Conformation is average.

Stud 4

Przewalski
gg EE AA chch nn DD P? rr stysty zz Te? toto lplp
Intense pangare to match stud 1. Purchased as a viable breed-back for offspring of stud 1. Preferred to stud 1 based on his long tail.

-----F1+-----
¤¥®¤ Wicked Lonely

Belgian x Forest Horse
¤¥®¤ Wicked Darkness x On My Own (Outside AC Belgian)
gg Ee at? chch nn dd Pp rr ?? zz Te? toto lplp
Good pangare expression for a brown.
Breeder's report is good for what he is. Trending in the right direction.
Conformation is okay. Needs much flatter hips.
Will be retained.

¤¥®¤ Forbidden Fruit

Grade
¤¥®¤ Wicked Lonely x ¤¥®¤ Peaches
gg E? A+at chch nn Dd P? rr stysty zz Te? toto lplp
Pangare expression is extremely faint but still noticeable. Has bright spots on his fetlocks which was unexpected but very welcome.
Breeder's report is good except for tempo.
Conformation leaves much to be desired. Too uphill, back is too short, legs too thing, hip too sloped, point of shoulder too high, shoulders too upright, jowl too thick.
Despite his conformational failings this colt is in training for score and
will be retained.

¤¥®¤ Gardener

Grade Horse Stallion
¤¥®¤ Step by Step X ¤¥®¤ Peaches
Mov 21 | Str 20 | Tem 29 | Bal 37
Needs more uphill, longer back, more backward stifle, thicker legs, flatter hips (though his are better than most), more sloped shoulders, more concave face.
Use for shallower jowls.

¤¥®¤ Foggy Echo

Forest Horse x Belgian Stallion
Kinetic Echo (Outside AC Belgian) X ¤¥®¤ Desert Fog
Mov 33 | Str 57 | Tem 24 | Bal 14
Needs slightly more uphill, slightly longer back, much flatter hips, lower point of shoulder, much shallower jowl, and more concave face.
Score Tested: 43.35

¤¥®¤ Golden Thorns

Grade Horse Stallion
¤¥®¤ Spiky Mysteries x ¤¥®¤ Black Rose
Mov 38 | Str 32 | Tem 19 | Bal 35
Needs more uphill, flatter hips, much lower point of shoulder, shallower jowl, more concave face.
Score Tested: 46.96

¤¥®¤ Cloud Cover

Grade Horse Stallion
¤¥®¤ Foggy Echo x ¤¥®¤ Ridgeline
Mov 29 | Str 39 | Tem 17 | Bal 27
Needs flatter hips, lower point of shoulder, more sloping shoulder, shallower jowl.
Bad base color but seemed promising for competition so is being trained.

¤¥®¤ Canyon

Grade Horse Stallion
¤¥®¤ Foggy Echo x ¤¥®¤ Ridgeline
Mov 30 | Str 38 | Tem 21 | Bal 25
Needs more uphill (but better than most), longer back, thicker legs, flatter hips, more sloped shoulder, slightly longer neck, shallower jowl, more concave face.
Full brother to ¤¥®¤ Cloud Cover. Has a better base color. Will also be trained.

-----Outside Studs-----
¤¥®¤ Spiky Mysteries

Prze x Gypsy Vanner
Stud 4 x Gypsy Mare
gg E? A? chch D? nn P? rr stysty zz Te? To? lplp
Not bred directly for the program but as an experiment to see if I could achieve any tobiano expression from a foal by an AC Prze. Obviously this colt has none.
This colt seems as though he may fit well with the program. His pangare expression is good and his black stockings are decently short. His breeder's report is much better than I would have expected with positives in all judged areas (movement, strength, tempo, balance).
His conformation leaves a bit to be desired, but his hips are flatter than a lot of my stock which could make him an asset. His breed mix is also desirable and should lend well to making new Grades.
Will be retained.

-----Rehomed Horses-----
Image
Stud 2
Forest Horse x Przewalski
Mare 1 x Stud 1
33,140 (-3) -|-|=|-|+|=|=|- (44.61)
gg Ee A? chch nn D? P? rr ?? zz Te? toto lplp
Mov 28 | Str 27 | Tem 24 | Bal 29
Had less pangare expression, lower stats, and subpar scores.

Mares

In Memoriam
These mares have naturally aged out of the program.

¤¥®¤ Dusk - AC Forest Horse
¤¥®¤ Apricot - AC Shetland
¤¥®¤ Black Sand - AC Forest Horse
¤¥®¤ Peaches - AC Prze x ¤¥®¤ Apricot
¤¥®¤ Wicked Darkness - Outside Mustang Stud X ¤¥®¤ Dusk
Foundation
¤¥®¤ Desert Fog

AC Forest Horse Mare
Mov 38 | Str 51 | Tem 25 | Bal 13
Needs flatter hips, shallower jowl, slightly shorter face, more concave face.

-----F1+-----
¤¥®¤ Black Rose

Forest x Belgian
Siberian Rose (Outside AC Belgian) X ¤¥®¤ Black Sand
gg E? A? chch nn dd P? rr Sty? zz Te? To? lplp
Nice pangare expression. Black stockings are decently short for a non-wild.
Breeder's report is lackluster but not downright terrible.
Conformation is decent. Needs flatter hips and shallower jowl. Point of shoulder should be lower.

¤¥®¤ Gradient

Forest x Belgian
ombre (Outside AC Belgian) X ¤¥®¤ Black Sand
gg E? A? chch nn dd P? rr Sty? zz Te? To? lplp
Brighter and more intense pangare expression than her sister with more noticeable sooty. Black stockings are sadly taller. This mare has literally the smallest tobiano star I have ever seen. I thought it was dust on the monitor at first.
Breeder's report is much more promising than her sister's.
Conformation is fairly good. Needs improvement in the same areas as her sister - flatter hips, shallower jowl, lower point of shoulder.
Will be trained and score-tested at some point.
Will be retained.

¤¥®¤ Forbidden Blend

Half North African Barb Mare
Outside AC NAB Stallion x ¤¥®¤ Gradient
Mov 29 | Str 26 | Tem 13 | Bal 25
Needs much more uphill, thicker legs, much flatter hips, much lower point of shoulder (though slope is decent), more concave face.
Jowl is more reasonable than most of my stock.
Bad base color but could be useful.

¤¥®¤ Flickering Embers

Half Thoroughbred Mare
Outside TB Stallion x ¤¥®¤ Lonely Fruit
Mov 24 | Str 27 | Tem 21 | Bal 24
Needs more uphill, thicker legs, much flatter hips, lower point of shoulder, more sloped shoulder, much shallower jowl, shorter face.

¤¥®¤ Flambe

Half Thoroughbred Mare
Outside TB Stallion x ¤¥®¤ Peaches
Mov 22 | Str 26 | Tem 26 | Bal 34
Needs much more uphill, more backward stifle, thicker legs, much flatter hips, more sloped shoulder, shallower jowl.

¤¥®¤ Miasma

North African Barb x Forest Horse Mare
Outside AC NAB Stallion x ¤¥®¤ Desert Fog
Mov 21 | Str 24 | Tem 34 | Bal 39
Needs more uphill, thicker legs, longer hip, much flatter hips, lower point of shoulder, more sloped shoulder, shallower jowl, shorter face.

¤¥®¤ Remembered Taste

Grade Horse Mare
¤¥®¤ Foggy Echo x ¤¥®¤ Peaches
Mov 22 | Str 23 | Tem 26 | Bal 25
Needs more uphill, longer back, thickers legs, much flatter hips, lower point of shoulder, shorter neck, shallower jowl.

¤¥®¤ Golden Embers

Mixed Thoroughbred Mare
¤¥®¤ Golden Thorns x ¤¥®¤ Flickering Embers
Mov 16 | Str 35 | Tem 13 | Bal 16
Needs more uphill, longer back, thicker legs, flatter hips, much lower point of shoulder, more sloped shoulder, longer neck, shallower jowl, shorter face, more concave face.
(Basically wrong in every aspect, but pretty so retained for now.)

-----Outside Mares-----
These mares were either purchased from other players or have a parent from outside of the YRS program.
¤¥®¤ Ridgeline

Prze x Gypsy Vanner
Stud 4 x Gypsy Mare
gg E? A+? chch nn dd P? rr zz Toto Te? lplp
Not bred directly for the program but as an experiment to see if I could achieve any tobiano expression from a foal by an AC Prze. Obviously this filly has none.
This filly does not appear to be an awful fit for the program. She has decent pangare expression and minimal black on her legs. Her conformation also isn't awful, and she has flatter hips than a lot of my stock. Her breeder's report leaves a bit to be desired but is not unexpected for an AC offspring.

Upcoming Foals

Stud 1 x Mare 2
Przewalski x Turkmene
Will be bay dun with a single recessive red gene.
The dam will hopefully throw a more coppery color over the sire's dark red.

Rehomed.

Stud 3 x Mare 3
52% Forest Horse
Should be bay or brown dun.
Test breeding to see if the mare has as much pangare to pass on as hoped.

Stud 4 x Mare 4
Przewalski x Shetland
Will be bay dun with a single recessive red gene.
Hoping for a loud pangare colt to cross to mare 3 or the same as a filly to cross to stud 3.

¤¥®¤ Flambe

Lovely color on this mare. Silver bay dun as base with high pangare expression. Her breeder's report leaves much to be desired. She's being sold after giving us a nice foal to continue her line.

Lovely new F1 born and aged to show wonderful color. Stats are disappointing but should be fairly malleable.

Likeit has this horse that I sold them a while back. Pretty sure he's just heavy pangare on bay, without other dilutes. Maybe they could let you stud to him? I don't have any horses from that project anymore, but there are a few I've sold to different people.
In the event you're not interested in him, at least here's proof that you can get a "golden color" without cream or dun. Good luck!

He's very nice! I'll keep them in mind but for now I think I'm going to keep mostly to AC horses or horses from my other projects. (This is Silverine on a different side. ;)) I like the challenge of building up from the bottom but having proof that what I'm going for is possible is always nice! And I'll know somebody out there has something close to what I want if I get frustrated.
