Genetic Potential
I've been playing for a while now, but I have never quite figured out what effect genetic potential has on horses. I though maybe it had an impact on competitions, but some of my low GP Thoroughbreds predorm just as well as the high GP thoroughbreds with the same skills and similar evaluations. In other words, I was wondering what affect Genetic Potential has on a horse and if it is a SUPER important part of breeding.

When they have low HGP they have less gold's and greens, they also don't compete as well as high HGP Arabs, BUT they are still good.
HGP is part of what the horse is, if you have a horse (like AC horses) that have 37-50k HGP they have reds most the time. Like the quest breed a crummy foal (15k HGP or less) where as you have the quest to breed a 70k HGP goal. The better the HGP it should improve your horse and it's comp win%
This is what I thought when I was wondering and it's kinda what I go by when thinking HGP
"The horses always come first! They eat before us, get taken care of before us, because it's what we can do to repay them for them giving us so much joy in our lives"

Re: Genetic Potential
First, a short history note. A number of years ago, we didn't have HGP [Horse Genetic Potential]. We only had the breeder's report and the conformation score. Because of some discussions among the community and with admin, admin decided to reveal the HGP for us. It already existed, we just weren't able to see it.FantasyRanch3 wrote:If you look at Arabs for exampleRose90067 wrote:I've been playing for a while now, but I have never quite figured out what effect genetic potential has on horses. Now, for the actuality.
Horse Genetic Potential is the hard number of all of the gene's hard numbers AND ALSO the conformation scores hard numbers all added together. Basically speaking, the more numbers you have the more genes and higher confo scores you'll have and the more greens and golds you'll have. That's not the stop-all, end-all of it, but basically, that's what it boils down to.
The more genes you have, the more hidden potential and the more possibilities your horse COULD have. However, Rose90067, as you have learned, the total amount of gene- and confo score-count a horse has, simply isn't the deciding factor when it comes to a great competition horse. And all because there's other hidden values that we can't see that affect a competition horse. And these other hidden values are NOT counted into the HGP of a horse.
So, it's fair to assume that the HGP is the 'Possible Potential' of a horse, what they could obtain if they had everything they needed to compete, but without those other hidden competition values that aren't added in and that we can't see, it's all just pretty horsey numbers.

In summary, HGP is a hard value telling us the hard numbers (genes and conformation scores) that make a horse. But they can't tell us competition talent or competition ability of our horses.
Does that make sense? Any more questions?

That's great! You should make a guide and how to on HGP sense you understand itBlackOak2 wrote:First, a short history note. A number of years ago, we didn't have HGP [Horse Genetic Potential]. Re: Genetic Potential
There is a guide that covers the differences and interactions between BR and confo scores and that also touches on HGP and performance here: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=14535&hilitFantasyRanch3 wrote:

But it is some seriously heavy reading.

I'll keep the subject in mind for the next issue of our community reminder, in the Interesting New Developments section.
