Could someone explain to me how the LP/Patn genes work on here?
Hey, Tea here!
I'm just a little baffled by how lp and patn1/patn2 work on here. I've popped horses from patn2 parents who've had patn1 patterns out of nowhere- which is beyond confusing to me
I'm starting to think that it works similar to the white marking/tobiano gene on here, but I would appreciate some clarification.
Thanks in advance!

Yes, kind of. The best description that people seem to understand the best, is the following:Cypress Creek Elites wrote:Hey, Tea here!

'It's kind of like a cup, once you fill it up, more spots appear in areas that there weren't before. Keep filling it up and overflowing the cup, the spots keep spreading.'
I'm remiss who said that though. Sorry about forgetting. -_-
Anyway, it works the same way with the spots themselves and the white area behind the spots. And your breeding progress will work differently on both. You may have a fully spotted horse, visible only when varnish reveals it, but the white areas are only on the hip and along the back, or vice versa, you may have an almost wholly white horse but have only spots in certain areas. Of course, I don't know how differently these two genes can spread separate from one another.
As far as which one is PATN 1 and PATN 2... that one is a bit more difficult to define. Silverine was starting a new study on which is which, but I haven't swung by there to check up on it. She was suggesting that the PATN 1 is actually not too different from PATN 2. The difference between the two (from AC suggestion) appears to be about double. PATN2 is the size of the larger hip blanket, while PATN1 is that plus along the backbone.
But that's unconfirmed. We may NOT know the difference between the two until we get genetic testing in.
What we do know, is that they work on here, as they do in real life, PATN1 overruling PATN2.
So a quick rundown (without the inclusion of the snowflake gene):
Lp/- & no pattern genes= Varnish Only
Lp/Lp & no pattern genes = Varnish Only
Lp/- & PATN1 = at least a blanket, but their are probably spots hidden under varnish areas
Lp/Lp & PATN1 = larger area than above (but not by much) in fewspot
Lp/- & PATN2 = small blanket and likely very little spots hidden under varnish areas
Lp/Lp & PATN2 = larger area than above (but again, not by much) in fewspot
As far as if you have a single PATN or a double PATN, regardless of which, there doesn't seem to be much difference. That said, there is some thought that one may need two PATN1 genes to get the 'true leopard'. Also, PATN2 genes, when spread large enough, does appear to give us a true false leopard, as in a leopard made using PATN2 genes rather than PATN1 genes.
Does any of that help?

That answers my questions... mostlyBlackOak2 wrote:...

I guess I'll have to wait until genetic testing gets implemented to figure out what's going on with my horses!
