Could someone please tell me how to read the percentage of breeds in a horse?

Post by Black Lace »

I have a Colt and it says that he is Part Cleveland Bay x Thoroughbred [80%] .
I read this as a small part being Cleveland Bay and the 80% being Thoroughbred.
When in fact the Father is Cleveland Bay (+1) and Mother is Cleveland Bay x Thoroughbred (50%) which means the foal is ¾ Cleveland x ¼ Thoroughbred.
That is opposite to what the game is saying.
If anyone could explain how it is meant to be read, that would be great. Thank you.

I just got another surprise.
I bred a full Quarter Horse Stud to my Part Thoroughbred x Quarter Horse (95%) Mare expecting to get as near as a Full Quarter Horse only to get a Part Quarter Horse x Thoroughbred (58%) foal. :(

I really dont understand how the percentages in breeds works. I am not getting the results i want. Nearly half my horses are Part Breeds.
Please explain it to me. thank you.

The "part" breed is the more dominant. If you breed a crossbred foal back to one of it's breed ancestors, you will eventually get a purebred horse. If you start from a 50/50 cross, this will take four to five generations.

Yes. For the most part (exceptions being 50/50 mixes), the first named breed is the most dominant blood in that horse. And the percentage at the end offers us a hard number to understand how much of this is the dominant blood.

There are three different, named mixes we can have: Half, Part and Mixed.
If memory serves, Mix is the 'least' amount of percentage that still registers as a breed. We can have as little as, I think 6% of a breed. Mixes often only offer one breed, such as Mixed Thoroughbred (6%). This means that there is other blood mixed in and that only one blood is still viewed as more dominant.

For 50/50, I think it defaults to the sire breed being named first and the dame's breed being named second, but I could be wrong, it could default to alphabetical, or default to dame's breed first.

So for me I just look at the pedigree
https://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/373132
So for him
His sire is a CB and his Dam is a CB X TB mix. So for easily telling because he has both sire and Dam CB that % is for the CB part of him.
His Dams Dam is a CB and his Dams Sire is a TB. So I look at it like this

V. 2Sire. 2 Dam. 2a Sire 2aDam
CB. CB. CB. TB
| --------------------|. |-----------------|
|. |
1 Sire 1 Dam
CB. CB X TB
|. I
----------|--------------------------
Your colt
CB X TB

So by looking there is more CB the TB.
By seeing that only 1dam and 2a dam are TB (so 2TB) and 2sire, 2a sire, 2 Dam, and 1sire are all CB (so 5 have the CB gean). So by seeing that the CB has 5 ancestors that are CB and the TB ancestors only have 2 ancestors. I come to the conclusion that my colt is 80% CB and 20% TB

I hope I helped a little but if I just confused you more forgot any and everything I said   have fun with your horses :D also Blackoak is great with answering any question i have had for them so fair so they are an amazing player in the game

like I said that's how I tell and you can pretty much go back as fair as I need with any horse. It just gets confusing a little when you get 4 different breed and what not
