Please Help Me Cull My Przewalskis
So, I've undertaken the project of creating Lokais from scratch (basically) and as I was unable to locate any Przewalski breeders, I adopted a few from the AC and bred them.
I've been using this as kind of a guide to evaluate my foals, because I can't see conformation.
My project horses are linked here.
I would love the opinions of some players who know what they're doing, because I sure as heck don't.
Przewalski Project goals:
-Improve the GP of my project horses before I use them in my crosses. I'm aiming for 40K. It's going to take a while.
-I'm looking for fairly balanced stats (with an emphasis on strength because I know that's a weakness of Arabians, which I'll be using heavily).
-Would love to get some highlighted stats on the Breeder's Report.
I would like to keep:
-At least one colt, maybe two max. Not sure what to do with the rest.
-Three or four fillies. I'd be fine with just two, but it'll make everything take longer. If I end up keeping one of the mares I only really need two fillies.
Besides the new foals, I'd maybe consider using their sire and dams again (not the 30K GP one though, most likely, as she didn't have the best production record)

Try crossing a prez with a good Arabian stud then breed them back to purebred. Thats a good shortcut to getting higher HGP and a better BR.Tenacious Equine wrote:Quote This

Hmmm. I'd need to find one that doesn't completely destroy the strength of mine first then xDCharlette wrote:Try crossing a prez with a good Arabian stud then breed them back to purebred. Thats a good shortcut to getting higher HGP and a better BR.Tenacious Equine wrote:Quote This

The best there is are the comments that say with a little training they will grow to me a strong horse so if youre worried about preserving the strength just go with Belgian studsTenacious Equine wrote:Hmmm. I'm not an expert on breeding a cross and then breeding back to the original breed so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I would think this would mess up the body type of the original breed? In all the new breeds I've created you need horses that have at least a 4* Evaluation for their breed, but usually 5* is best (although there are exceptions to this). Also if you were to use a high GP Arabian off the market it will most likely be way too tall for the breed. All this could be worked around but I think it would be a lot more difficult to breed back to the body type you need to create the Lokai breed than it would be to simply put in the effort of breeding the AC horses until they reach the level you want, while culling out any that don't have a 5* eval for their breed. Or even easier, create the the Lokai breed using low GP horses and then breed them until their GP is where you want it.Charlette wrote:The best there is are the comments that say with a little training they will grow to me a strong horse so if youre worried about preserving the strength just go with Belgian studsTenacious Equine wrote: Hmmm. I've been working on raising the GP of the Arabian breed while keeping them at a 5* eval, so if you'd like to use any in the creation of your breed, let me knowAmeigo&Robin06! wrote:...

Oh also I was just looking at the breeds needed to create the Lokai breed and it looks like Arabians are used several times, Turkmenes a few times and Przewalskis only once, so I personally wouldn't worry too much about improving the Przewalski breed past the point where you've eliminated the reds from the BR. Because the Lokai breed is so heavily based on the Arabian and Turkmene breeds, both of which have very low strength, bringing up the strength of the breed may be difficult.Hidalgo wrote:I'm not an expert on breeding a cross and then breeding back to the original breed so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I would think this would mess up the body type of the original breed? I might add that it is VERY difficult to raise the strength of Arabians without crossing them to other breeds, so there's that

Re: Please Help Me Cull My Przewalskis
The build will be temporarily off. There are a couple short Arabians on the market that are under 20hh with decent HGP. The main goal of breeding to an Arabian is to get a boost in BR, confo, and HGP big or small. You will breed more of your desired breed / build than you will of the Arabian with the undesired build so I'm sure it will fix itself along the way.Hidalgo wrote:I'm not an expert on breeding a cross and then breeding back to the original breed so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I would think this would mess up the body type of the original breed? Re: Please Help Me Cull My Przewalskis
I may just move forwards with the project without doing much further breeding, but the lack of Przewalskis of decent GP as a whole is something I'd like to work towards fixing as well
