Blue to Brown -Help?
https://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/2943617
So when she was a filly her eyes were a sky blue, up until now her eyes turned brown. Is it a rare genetic?? I would love an explanation, also I would like her coat-color known as well.

She is a dark chestnut.S_ore wrote:https://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/2943617

Eyes changing colors is a natural thing. Many foals are born with blue eyes and the color changes as they get older.

She looks more like a Sable Champagne to me. They often have lighter eyes when their younger and have freckles around the muzzle. She probably carries the chestnut gene from her Dam but she doesn't actively express it.

Your horse is not chestnut. She is what is called Classic Champagne - a black base with a champagne gene. The champagne is indicated by the freckles on her muzzle and around her eye, as well as the bright blue eyes as a newborn. Champagne horses not affected by tiger eye are born with bright blue eyes that darken to brown as an adult.RoseeDelight wrote:She is a dark chestnut.S_ore wrote:https://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/2943617

Your mare's sire is Silver Classic Pearl - black + champagne + silver + 2x pearl. Her mother is a flaxen chestnut - chestnut + 2x flaxen. Genetically, if we take the parents into account, we know that your mare is black-based and carries a recessive red gene as well as a pearl gene from her father. If you would like her genetic code it is as follows:
gg Ee aa Chch nPrl dd ?f pp rr zz tete lplp toto
Decoding the code:
-g/g: Your horse is not gray.
-E/e: Your horse has one dominant (black) gene and carries a copy of recessive red from her mother. She can throw both black-based and red-based foals.
-a/a: Your horse is black.
-Ch/ch: Your horse has one copy of the champagne gene (from her father). She can throw both champagne and non-champagne foals.
-n/Prl: Your horse carries a hidden pearl dilution (from her father). There is a 50% chance of her foals having this dilution as well.
-?/f: Your horse has at least one flaxen gene. The question mark is because we have no way of knowing her sire's flaxen genes and so no way to know what he may have passed on to her.
-p/p: There is no apparent pangare in you horse's pedigree, so I have listed her as non-pangare.
-r/r: Your horse is not roan.
-z/z: Your horse is not silver.
-te/te: Your horse does not carry or express tiger eye.
-lp/lp: Your horse does not have appaloosa spotting.
-to/to: Your horse does not have tobiano.

How in earth do you learn all this coding stuff? Its not used in rl is it? Because I've never heard of those things in rlSilverine wrote:Your horse is not chestnut. Re: Blue to Brown -Help?
It is, actually. I've learned it through years of practice - about 15 years now, if not more. Here is a copy of my own mare's DNA test by UC Davis. I didn't test her for dilutions or leopard spotting as she quite obviously doesn't have those genes:RoseeDelight wrote: How in earth do you learn all this coding stuff? Its not used in rl is it? HWO uses a different agouti model than is currently testable in real life. Otherwise all of the genetics are taken directly from real life.

Oh. Ok. That's really cool. Genetics are so interesting. In rl, I'm not really into horse breeding although I love horses, but I know all about sheep and goat genes.Silverine wrote:It is, actually.
