Retiring Bred Horses

Post by Argent »

Will we be able to do this at some point? My soft culling methods have left me with a lot of extra horses, and horses don't die so I'm drowning in ponies.

Drowning in ponies is a pretty funny image lol

Yes retiring will be coming soon too. Actually it brings up a good topic too.
Retired horses are kept in a separate table in the database so we can keep less information stored.
Soooo, what information would you want kept on retired horses?

Obviously an image will be kept, but probably all genetic information will be dumped. Bloodlines obviously will be kept too, breed data, height. A competition summary will be kept, with highlights of top events won/placed, etc.

Anything else?

I just culled 100 horses O.O

Only the necessary things, I guess? But looking at the horses' pages, I could see wanting to keep the breeding (Arab 100, etc.), gender (though gender would be obvious based on where the horse sits on the pedigree), breeder, achievements, and pedigree; maybe the height/build/temperament and gaits. I would personally like to keep registry evaluation scores even if the actual breeder's report were deleted. Going off the Thoroughbred Pedigree Query database, year of birth, color, sex, breed, owner, and performance record seem to be important information. If you really wanted to minimize the amount of data stored for dead/retired horses, I would say limit store information to what can be displayed neatly on a pedigree: so maybe color, blood percentage, eval score percentage, height, breeder. Then under the players' accomplishments page, ribbons/trophies could be displayed with the horses' names, instead of on individual retirees' pages. Of course, I'm not a programmer, so I don't know if any of this would actually be more efficient.

Retirement

Post by Argent »

Can some sort of retirement function be added to remove horses with foals from our farms, but not from the game?

Yup, it's on the list and will be added once I begin adding the new features in again. Not too long from now.

Retirement Function for Bred Horses

Post by Argent »

I'd really appreciate a way to remove horses with foals from my pastures/barns, but not from the game, especially since horses don't die yet.

This one has been on my mind a bit lately. I'd like some input on what information all of you think should be kept about a retired horse. The very bare minimum is best.

Ideally I would delete all genetics and artwork EXCEPT for images in the gallery. Keep just the basic information and performance record.
Anything else I should consider?

Keeping a gallery image would be nice, for pedigrees (I'm assuming the gallery image is the one we "take" and set ourselves). Names should be kept, of course, and perhaps breeder/owner, and maybe even color (though that could be guessed from the image, if one was stored). But really, nothing else beyond that is of any particular use. If the horse had a high achievement in showing (made it to the top ten in rankings or something; 100+ ribbons or whatever) it might be nice to have that around

I would really appreciate this too. I've got some horses that I'm done with for the most part but they have children in the world so they are just taking up space.

I think Name, Breeder, Pedigree, Color, Show Record covers it for me. Image I can take or leave really if it will be a big burden on the server.

I second this. Seems like plenty of information for breeding purposes.
