Any ideas what I should put as the color for this horse?

Post by jennakaaate »

Just recently adopted her and want to update her information, but I'm not sure about the correct color to put. Can someone help out please? Thank you!

She kind of looks Grulla to me? Rather than bay?

Grulla means the horse is black with the dun gene, and no agouti. This is an example of a grulla horse:

And a bay dun horse looks like this:

See the difference? Now, this horse is not grullo, since it would have a greyish colored coat (but the horse does not have grey). Her grey mane is caused by varnish, which is a trait that leopard horses have. She has the leopard gene, you can see her blanket and snowflakes. Her coat just looks kind of faded because of that varnish, but if she did not have the leopard gene her color would be the same as the bay dun horse I showed you above.

As further information.
All tarpans out of the AC will be Bay Dun. Sometimes they'll have Tobiano (usually as cornets, snippets or stars), sometimes they'll have Lp (usually hip blankets or snowflakes).

It makes it easier defining this particular AC breed colors. :)
