I'm no expert, but maybe a dapple-tobiano?

I think he has a dapple grey base with blanket appaloosa on top maybe?

Silver dapple with Lp. When pairing silver with black, it creates this dappled coat (not always, but often). The silver gene will also turn the mane and tail white (hence the name 'silver').
Your horse will begin to shift colors as he ages from the Lp varnish.
