Mohawk Shetland Ponies

Post by Softball12345! »

Is it possible to breed Mohawk Shetland Ponies? If not, I think that it should be added into the game! :)

I don't know how it would be done, exactly, but I suppose you could cross them with Przewalskis for a start.

True
Mohawk mane is recessive, meaning you need two copies for it to show up. Shetlands do not carry mohawk, meaning you're starting from a horse that has nothing.

Your first cross should be:
Shetland x mohawk horse

If you take two Shetland x mohawk babies and breed them together you will have a 25% chance of producing a mohawk offspring. If you breed a Shetland x mohawk baby to a mohawk horse you will have a 50% chance of producing a mohawk offspring. If you breed two mohawk horses together the baby is guaranteed to have a mohawk.

The mohawk horse crossed in does not need to be a przewalski. It can be any horse with a mohawk. There are plenty of mohawk grades running around and those will be your best resource for getting back to full Shetland.

If your breed a 100% Shetland to a Grade you will end up with a plain 50% Shetland. Two plain 50%s crossed together will give you 65%. You can continue breeding plain Shetlands together to eventually reach 100%.

If you breed a 100% Shetland to a mixed horse that has anything other than Grade for its breed you will end up with 50% Shetland X (other breed). You can still use these to get back to full Shetland, but it will be much slower and you will only reach 100% if you use more than one (other breed). Otherwise you'll just end up with more Shetland X (other breed) horses.

If you breed a Shetland to a purebred of any breed you will end up with a 50x50 cross. If you breed two 50x50 crosses of the same kind together you will end up with the same 50x50 cross as offspring. You can increase the Shetland percent by breeding two 50x50s that are both 50 Shetland but have a different other breed mixed in. This method is the most difficult to breed back to pure.

Here are a few mohawk Grade stallions with energy (I didn't pay attention to price so they may or may not be expensive):
