Which is more important to you

Post by Mega »

Do you take genetic potential as 'a better horse' ?

or do you take the breeders report to be a 'better horse"as far as one you would keep and breed/show.

Breeder's report. I have many RH that have 10-20k lower HGP than some of their competitors, but they do better because of their BR comments.

HGP is a numerical representation of BR, but it is also a sum of all attributes, so it tells you nothing as far as a horse's ability in any particular sport. I have horses with only 50k HGP that are infinitely better dressage horses than those with 60k+ HGP because all of their points are place in attributes that matter, rather than spread around.

So think about what you are interested in. Look at the Discipline Summary in the Help section:
http://www.horseworldonline.net/forum/v ... =12&t=1235
Traits are listed in their order of importance to judging.

For example, a good Dressage horse has excellent
1) Movement
2) Tempo
3) Balance
4) Strength

Two other traits that are always beneficial are (average or better): Intelligence (horse learns faster), and Stamina (can work longer).
