Why isn't my horse gaining weight?

Post by River Bank Farms »

Here is the horse I'm talking abouthttps://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/2744333 , he doesn't seem to be gaining weight very well, as well as some other horses.
Can anyone provide a thorough explanation of what I can do to fix this? Thanks :)

Check out my guide, here, for useful feeding tips.

For the particular horse you posted, you're only feeding him 90% of what he needs to maintain his energy from day-to-day. Any horse fed less than 100% will lose weight (and have less than full energy). A horse fed more than 100% (and usually it need to be 105% or greater) will gain weight. My guide above goes into greater detail.

Heres another question I have, does the max feed cause any issues for a horse? Thanks a lot :)

Max Feed is our guide. Essentially it's the max amount we can stuff down the horse's gullet until they just can't eat anymore for that day. :D If the number turns red, it's the indication that we're trying to force more food than the horse can eat. :P They'll have a messy, food-left-over stall then, that's all.
So it doesn't have anything to do with causing issues for the horse. Try to keep that max feed number always in the black and never in the red.
