Gain Weight
Hey guys, I know this has been asked before. But I was wondering if there was a feeding regimen to keep stalled horses from loosing weight?
I get tired of having to rotate all of them form barn, to pasture, and then back again. It starts to where they aren't eating enough for full energy, then they lose weight and end up being in poor condition. I've constantly messed with the different feeds and hay, and end up putting them all at 100%, and it still doesn't work
Heeeeeelp pleeeease!!

Re: Gain Weight
I use 60% performance mix 5% oats and 35% hay. If a horse goes to moderately thin ( which they might eventually ) I add 25% or higher weight gain mix until their weight is moderate againRayneAmdis wrote:Hey guys, I know this has been asked before. If a horse is young (1 year and below ) putting them in a field on weight gain mix would be the best option. I prefer not to move a foal that's younger than 7 months because sometimes they cant handle 100% weight gain mix in the barn.

Re: Gain Weight
I leave the foals on pasture until they're 2-3 years old. Does your feeding regimen work on all breeds or just certain ones?

Re: Gain Weight
All horses need around 100% feed total to keep the same weight (with yearlings, I recommend keeping them in the pasture until they're at least 2 years old because it's extremely difficult to keep them from loosing weight in a barn). If you want your horse to gain weight, I usually put mine in the pasture with weight gain mix. The horses need to be having at least 110% Daily Energy/feed to gain weight. if you want your horse to loose weight, you need to feed them 90% Daily energy/feed or less.RayneAmdis wrote:I leave the foals on pasture until they're 2-3 years old.
