The most consistent way to earn money is by using a grinder. This is basically just a horse that you enter into local comps (any level, but 10 is most profitable) which can earn turns, PT and money.
There are people who will give them to newer players for low prices or for free, or you can find one in the market or train a horse yourself (training grinders is also a great source of income, as you can buy pretty good colts for almost nothing and fully trained they can sell for 60-75K+).
Additionally, if you can, try to keep all your horses on pasture so you don't have to feed them. There's no real reason to feed unless you're trying to maintain temperament, so it's just a big drain on your money.
