Getting the "wrong" breed

I'm trying to breed Icelandics which require a cross between a Tarpan and Norwegian Fjord. That's the same recipe for a Faeroes Pony. One of my foals is a 5* Icelandic, but I got a Faeroes Pony instead. Is it just luck whether you get the breed you want when it meets the criteria for two different ones?
