Weird chestnut

Post by Malakai10 »

Is it just more or does this horse look like a red dun but without the dun part. I have never seen a chestnut this shade before.

So, really, really muted red dun? Or sooty chestnut? The shade just looks too... not chestnut. It's weird. Like he's maybe too dull? Could be sooty, maybe.

He does look like he might be a cryptic (so gently expressed as to not see it). There at the front of his chest, there is a definitive shading difference that might be indicative of the dun gene. Plus it also looks like he has a gentle form of pangare too, his flank area appears to be just a shade lighter. And probably also flaxen.

It's tough sometimes and definitely increased the desire to have genetic testing in-game.

Dun from the dame, you already have her marked for that...
And pangare through the sire (the blacks), down from this dam:

Pangaré? Oh dear, I am not fond of that colour, are you sure?

I was really hoping for him to not be dun simply because I don't like gently expressed dun... oh well.

Thanks!

I see a change of color at the flank. Sometimes that's all the pangare will express and since it hides with black, you wouldn't have known it was being passed down anyway. And thus it only showed up when another color was born. Although I am pretty sure that the dame doesn't have it, so your horse only has a 50/50 of passing it onto the offspring. So either, go black, or cull hard. That is... if you can manage to cull out the cryptics. :| I haven't yet accomplished that in my own herd. A couple of us are in that boat...
