Sorry... Another colour I'm confused with

Post by jigsaw123123 »

I'm definitely improving, however I don't see how I can differentiate whether this horse below has any CR genes or not. I think it is a champagne bay (CH_ A_), however I know that if the speckles around the nose and eyes are faint it is CH_ CR_ A_ and I don't know if this would count as 'faint'. All these colour guides are so helpful - I've learnt so much already. Just trying to fine tune the whole 'naming' bit, and the odd genetic gaps I have. Thanks in advance for your help.

Don't be sorry, this is what this forum's here for :)
You are right, your horse is a champagne bay, this is called amber champagne.

An amber champagne with additional cream would be an amber cream. They look like this:

So quite a bit lighter! I also have saved a foal picture of her where you can see that they are also lighter at birth and that the freckles are really faint:

Genetics wise your horse is
E_ (= black-based) A_ (= bay) CH/ch (we can say that for sure because his sire doesn't have Champagne so Rusty can only have one CH) for these three loci :)

Edit: Oh I've just now noticed that he had really extreme Mealy as a foal. People are talking about it in this thread, if you're interested in that.

Thanks so much, yes I'm really enjoying the genetics part of this game (has always fascinated me), just a lot to get to grips with. Thanks for the link too, I'll have a look!
