Genetics of my horse
I'm really trying to get to grips with the genetics side of the colourings, however i'm finding it so difficult. My horse shown below was what I would call a bay with blanket as a foal, but has grey'd with age. Does this mean she has the grey gene then or does it happen with all horses regardless of genes? I'm also torn as to whether she has cream or not.... And if anybody could tell me if she is indeed a 'Sooty Amber Blanket' that would be great (it was what she was described as by previous owner but I'm not so sure).

Re: Genetics of my horse
When you post a horse with the horse tag you need to enter the ID number of the horse. I've fixed a couple for you when I approved the posts.
Replace the 1234 with the horse ID which is at the end of the URL. In this case 409193 is the horse ID number.

So you would write:
Hope this helps.

Re: Genetics of my horse
What she's exhibiting is not Grey but actually Varnish Roan.jigsaw123123 wrote:I'm really trying to get to grips with the genetics side of the colourings, however i'm finding it so difficult. There's the LP locus which determines if a horse exhibits Leopard pattering (imagine it like a switch).
All horses that have the LP switch turned to "on" develop Varnish Roan over time.
Greying starts on the face and looks like this:

Your pony does not have Cream, the lightened coat and freckly nose are caused by Champagne.
This is how she would look without the distracting Leopard patterns:
I agree with the previous owner on sooty amber blanket.
This basically means she is Bay + Champagne + Sooty + Leopard pattern. :)

Thanks so much, that's cleared it up for me a lot!
