Could I get a second opinion?
Here is the mare in question:

Both parents are sooty buckskins, one has dapples.
It looks to me that she is black based + cream + pearl + sooty dapple. Pearl pops up here and there in my Andys. If this is correct, I didn't think this color was possible! The sooty dapples showing up on a black base, that is.

Re: Could I get a second opinion?
I would have called it a silver dapple, but I'm not so great with the lighter colors, so you may want a 3rd opinion. XD

Re: Could I get a second opinion?
I'm voting smoky cream (double cream on black). As both parents are definitely cream, one of them would've had visible Pearl if it had been in there.

Re: Could I get a second opinion?
Yes, that's what I thought at first, too, because of the dapples. But it would have been visible on one of the parents (both black based) and Cowgirl specialises in produces dapples via Sooty, so that's what explains it.KayaineII wrote:I would have called it a silver dapple, but I'm not so great with the lighter colors, so you may want a 3rd opinion. Edit: On second thought, she really looks like Cream + Pearl, but I can't explain why...

Re: Could I get a second opinion?
This has me quite baffled for a number of reasons.
The first being that the dark around the nose immediately makes me think bay base, not black. Which is really likely, 3:1, if both parents are At-a Buckskins (we're assuming they are; the chance of it being black based drops to 0% if it's anything else). But the problem with that is that the mare doesn't really look like a perlino or buckskin pearl. Maybe there's some sooty magic going on?
But okay, maybe it is black based. It certainly resembles a Smoky Black Pearl, the mane/tail is a bit light tho and there's still that dark patch to figure out. And there are 2 black horses 3 generations back, so it is possible that it is black based... but there in lies the second reason I'm baffled; what color is the father then?
Pearl should have shown up on one of the parents since both of them seem to have cream. And seeing as there is pearl on both sides of the family, either one could be the culprit. My money is on the father having the pearl tho, seeing as he has another foal that looks like it's pearl related. In which case, what color is the father?
I wish I could see what she looked like as a foal, as well as the father. It's easier to tell when you can look at their younger selves too.

Re: Could I get a second opinion?
Nooo Dev, I think you're right!
I think this could be a very sooty perlino, actually!

Re: Could I get a second opinion?
He looks like my deceased horse ER's Wirt that I guessed was a very sooty wild perlino, probably with metallic. Your just have no metallic and also have sooty dapples. So I think the horse is just that, a very sooty perlino that also happens to have sooty dapples seeing as none of the parents have silver. They also don't have any champagne and can't have pearl. Pearl would show up on any of the parents as they both look very clearly like very sooty buckskins to me. One pearl gene is not visible without another pearl gene or a cream gene. They don't look like double pearls at all. So no pearl in the offspring.

Yes, I agree 100%.

Re: Could I get a second opinion?
Wow, thanks for all the help, everyone!
I completely forgot that pearl has to show up if creme is present, so that is definitely out since neither parent is pearl.
I agree dark and possibly wild perlino with sooty dapples is probably the answer. There is that slightly darker area on her muzzle. I didn't think it would be possible for sooty dapples to show up on a black base, but she has such minimal points(if even visible) I couldn't confirm bay base.
