Player-held Conformation Shows
Has anyone considering hosting community shows around breeds, sort of like a model horse show (or even a real horse show)? I've only shown rabbits IRL so I don't know quite as much as some people, but I figure conformation shows would be too finicky for the game to ever create. Instead I wondered if we could host player-made game-type shows where you win, say, bragging rights and maybe even donated art or game money.
You could have a few judges that don't enter their own horses and they could go by the breed standard either listed on the breed's Breeding Community page or the breed's real life association standard. It could go by the Eval with OA 5/4* being best, general breed conformation, coloration, and maybe a small number of points given for BR and horse genetic potential? We could set up our own HWO Standards booklet maybe... Then horses could win, say, Best of Variety (color) and opposite (ex: mare and stallion), Best of Breed and opposite, and Best in Show and opposite. Classes could be by breed if a certain number entered, but if there's a small number entered there could be an Any Other Variety class or similar.
Would anyone be interested in getting involved in a community and player project like this? I would be willing to do a lot of the legwork.

But it will still be a while before they are added to the game. I think this idea is wonderful. If you get enough interest I can create special prizes. Perhaps a unique wearable item for example.Argent II wrote:Conformation shows and ratings are on the to do list.

If anyone wants to be a judge (I figure I'll be one to begin with--along with Registrar and other roles), feel free to let me know. Anyone who runs a Breeding Community or has horses IRL would be especially liked as a judge, but anyone can "audition". You also don't have to be an upgraded player because while conformation scores would be useful as a metric for a judge, we're going by phenotype ("looks").
Anyone can also post their comments, questions, or suggestions here to help with this project. First of all, I have two questions for everyone (may start polls, we'll see).
- 1. Should horses have to be purebred to enter in their breed? Would it be acceptable as long as the horse only has one breed's name as their breed (ex: Mixed Spanish Barb)?
2. Should all breeds be judged by the same metric, or should certain breeds get more points for certain attributes? For instance, should a one/few color breed get more points for color?

Re: Player-held Conformation Shows
I'd definitely be up for something like this!
What breeds would we be looking at tho? Because some people breed horses that only they have and that's it. Perhaps it would be good to break them up by category. So like all the Arabians (Arabian, Polish, Shagya, Persian, Hispano, etc) or the ponies get shown together? It would kind of stink if someone specializes in a certain breed and can't really participate.
Also, I would be up for making some art for prizes too.

Re: Player-held Conformation Shows
I hadn't thought of that, but if you or anyone want to donate art for prizes I can provide a template for the horse image with instructions how to draw wearables on the horse. I would have to come up with some Terms of Service donators would have to agree to in order to use their art on the site. Just to keep things legal all around.Devolare wrote:Also, I would be up for making some art for prizes too.

Re: Player-held Conformation Shows
This is a good idea, Devolare. I was thinking I would break up the horses by category and have weekend shows. So you'd have cold-blooded horses, hot-blooded horses, warm-blooded horses, and miniature horses/ponies. Considering how many breeds there are, it may be good to have breed specialty days (as per your example, Arabian Day).Devolare wrote:I'd definitely be up for something like this!

Re: Player-held Conformation Shows
So yesterday I spent a lot of time figuring out which breed categories to set up. I decided on the Cold-blooded (Draft, Heavy); Hot-blooded (Light); Warm-blooded (Moderate); and Miniature Horses/Ponies categories. Then I started working on classes. Here's some of my WIP document, if anyone has comments/questions/suggestions.
"Requirements for Entry:
Horse must be purebred or only have one breed listed.
Horses must be 3-4* for their breed. (Judges will check when possible, but with rare breeds this is done on an honor system.)
Horses should be in good condition for their breed. A poor horse in any breed will be DQ’d. A thin hot-blood or fat cold-blood is acceptable.
Horses must be four-years-old (4) in order to show. Only mares and stallions can show at this point in time as there would be much difficulty in properly judging foals.
Information
Horses will be judged by Breeding Community standards and real life breed standards. Conformation may be looked at by judges to see how closely it matches and/or the judge may go by phenotype (“looks”).
Training is not required, but the Breeder’s Report and Horse Genetic Potential will be looked at. Show wins do not improve your horse’s chance of winning.
Red stats are considered a flaw and take away points.
Coloration is involved. In breeds where only one or few colors are accepted, the closer the horse is to the correct color, the more color points it receives. Perfectly colored horses get full points. In breeds where color is not an issue, more points will be given for other traits.
Mane/tail length and type, as well as feathering, will be considered. Points will be added or taken away based on these.
Temperament will receive a small number of points and be based on breed type similar to weight.
Rules
Judges may not enter their own horses in events they themselves are judging.
Notes
If you have difficulty with one judge, please contact the other judges. If there is any sort of problem relating to the rules of the game, please also contact the mods."
"CLASSES
At the moment, only breeds with over 500 horses listed in the Breed Wiki will get their own sanctioned breed show. Other breeds will have specific classes involving them. Critical breeds (<50 horses) will have their own class altogether. Horses who have too few entries and don’t fit into any specific class will be placed in AOV. If more than five horses and three handlers enter, a request for breed sanction can be made (if AOV or Critical). Breed color sanctions can be arranged in all classes in order to produce Best of Variety wins if more than five horses and three handlers enter (ex: five gray Lipizzaner mares entered by three different handlers)."

Re: Player-held Conformation Shows
I also more or less figured out the AOV and Critical classes based on The Complete Encyclopedia of Horses & Ponies and the Breed Wiki. Some of the breeds I am unsure about, so if anyone would like to enter them (or a new game breed, such as the Toy Arabian), please let me know and we can work something out.
