Silver Dapple with possible Dapple gene
I've been working on adding the Dapple gene to my herd, thanks to CarouselCowgirl. (And, seriously - HUGE thanks to her for working so hard on getting that dapple gene out there).
One of the foals from this work turned up to be a "Silver Dapple" (black horse with silver which doesn't require the dapple gene at all, if I'm not mistaken). However, because her dam shows dapple, it is possible that she is both Silver Dapple and "real" dapple. I'm very interested to see how she turns out!

Re: Silver Dapple with possible Dapple gene
Interesting. Typically I remove any black based foals from the herd immediately, just because I would think black-based, or at least definitely solid black, horses wouldn't show sooty.
But, the silver dapple gene dilutes the black base, so perhaps there is a chance we could see sooty on it... Hmm. I will be keeping an eye on this one for sure!

I agree - black horses certainly make the dapple breeding hard! I wasn't aware that her parents could produce black, but I think she'll be a fun one to watch regardless of whether or not "true dapple" can be seen.
