Belgian Colour Help.

Post by Woodstock »

I got a Mare from the market that was listed as palomino but looking at here image I could tell that she wasn't Palomino. I believe that she has champagne and possibly pearl? but I'm not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Woodstock,
you're right, this is not a perlino. I'd say you have a gold champagne roan here.

Sorry, I was a bit too fast on the first one. Actually, I meant to say gold cream roan :)

Are you sure? She has the freckles for champagne on her nose.. And a double dilute cream on red would have blue eyes right?

That is exactly what I was thinking Flyer-Owl. I don't see how she can possibly not have champagne... and also could someone check to see if I got her foals colouring right?

Here, I'll clear up the confusion.

Gold Cream is not a double cream. The double Creams are Cremello, Smoky Cream, Brown Cream, Perlino, and then each one can have that plus a champagne (ie, Cremello Champagne, Smoky Cream Champagne, etc).
Gold Cream is a Champagne. It's 1 Cream + Champagne on a chestnut base. Plain old Gold Champagne is just Champagne on a chestnut base (it's darker and also why nyraeia apologized for going too fast because it's a different color entirely).

My question is where the roan came from. It does certainly look like it's roaning, but neither of the parents look very roan to me. Seeing as roan is dominant, one of the parents should have it. I guess it comes from the father, tho, because he had another foal that was a buckskin roan... Hmm, that's very interesting. Perhaps his muscularity is hiding it or I'm just blind as a bat? Maybe both? :D

Ahhh ok then I just got the naming wrong sorry! :)
I agree with 1 Champagne + 1 Cream.

No Iagree, none of the parents seem like they carry roan, but she obviously has it, and her colt foal also shows it. It must be the sire then.. hm..
