Failing to breed a New Breed
Hi. I have a few failed Anglo-Arabians. My question is, does it work to breed them together when their stats say the foal should come out an Anglo-Arabian? same for other breed such as Navarrin Horse? Or are they a waste of time and should be rehomed?
They are Part Thoroughbred x Arabian 80%.
Thank you.

Re: Failing to breed a New Breed
I have bred an Arabian x Turkmene to an Arabian x Turkmene before and gotten an Akhal-Teke, so it should be possible.

Re: Failing to breed a New Breed
Oh i hope so. Then I shall keep trying the failures together.
Thank you
Thank you

Re: Failing to breed a New Breed
I'm afraid its not quite as simple as that, but you are lucky in that the breed you're trying to make, you can use the failed attempts still. You'll need to cross your part thoroughbred x arabians to thoroughbreds in order to stand a chance of breeding an anglo-arabian, so don't just breed them together. Also if you are interested in Navarrins I am very happy to breed/sell you some?

Re: Failing to breed a New Breed
No I think Sypherthrax was right, at least that's the way it's worked for me. If you breed the thoroughbred x arabians to other thoroughbred x arabians you have a chance at producing an anglo arabian (or part thoroughbred x arabians etc). Crossing to just a thoroughbred I don't think will work

Re: Failing to breed a New Breed
Actually crossing one of the failures (Part Thoroughbred x Arabian 80%) with a Thoroughbred should work just as Weaving said, as it is exactly what the formula calls for: Thoroughbred x [Arabian x Thoroughbred]. That it isn't a 50/50 Arabian/Thoroughbred doesn't matter.
I would be surprised if two failures (which are practically both Thoroughbred x Arabian) would produce anything but more Part Thoroughbred x Arabians. Else the breed recipe would call for [Arabian x Thoroughbred] x [Arabian x Thoroughbred].
Creating breeds from scratch is really a luck thing. I am doing Norman Cobs right now and even when I breed parents which rate 5* and 4* for Norman Cob I get tons of duds. By the time I got my first cob my first slew of Horses had all died of old age

Re: Failing to breed a New Breed
My apologies, I assumed that the cross required was Arabian x Thoroughbred, I hadn't actually looked at the breed data, so yes as you said breeding the part TB x Arabs to a TB is the right thing to do! I was thinking it was like Exmoors, where a Przewalski Horse x Tarpan is required, and I had also bred Exmoors from [Przewalski Horse x Tarpan] x [Przewalski Horse x Tarpan]Byakko wrote:Actually crossing one of the failures (Part Thoroughbred x Arabian 80%) with a Thoroughbred should work just as Weaving said, as it is exactly what the formula calls for: Thoroughbred x [Arabian x Thoroughbred].
