Keeping a directory of breeders working on the same goal is also helpful.

Re: Dutch Warmblood
Can someone help me out? I did this combo to get a Trakhner but I got a grade mare instead. Luck of the draw or did I do something wrong??

Does this mean if I breed for a Holstein I won't get one?Chelle wrote:That's great! I'm held up right now waiting for the Holstein update so I can continue working my way to the Dutch warmblood

I'm working my way to the Dutch Harness Horse, which is a Hackney x [Gelderlander x Groningen] cross. I suspect I will probably be hitting you guys up for some warmbloods at some point.

Congrats! He is handsome!

Re: Dutch Warmblood
Anyone else still working on Dutch warmbloods?

Re: Dutch Warmblood
I would love to join this group! I recently spend a good chunk of money on a solid stud colt. I'm now raising and training him as well as two fillys I purchased. Does anyone have ideas about competition for DW? My head stallions all are fully trained and have a competition or several they are specialists in, and I want to continue this plan with my DW herd.
Also does anyone know about feed for them? What is the best combination of feed for a competitive colt? The fillys are on pasture, but the colt is stabled and so far he is eating crazy amounts of food compared to my other stallions/colts.

Re: Dutch Warmblood
I like to keep my competing Dressage stallions at moderately fleshy/fleshy weight. Seems like they do well at that. I usually feed a combination of performance mix paired with either yellow corn or oats depending how well they're keeping weight on. Usually during training I just keep them out at pasture. I compete in dressage but I'm hoping to spread out into show jumping as well once I finish adding some new lines into my herd. I usually don't compete my mares-just use them to help improve breeder report/conformation unless they have well bred reports. side note-any horse that is stabled is going to eat a decent amount of food because they won't have access to grass like your other horses will that are out on pasture. Plus training wears them out too so even a horse on pasture that is being training may need additional feel. Hope this helps some!
feel free to message me with any questions

Re: Dutch Warmblood
It helped allot! I like to keep my show stallions in the barn because I can keep a strict eye on their feed intake. For my Standardbreds and Clydesdales it has proven helpful. DW seem to eat so much more food than the other breeds I have worked with. I will PM you if it's alright when I have questions. I really would like to have advise from someone who has been doing this for a while. Thanks!!
