Confused

Post by Mlloftus »

If you look at this horse as a foal.

She is a chestnut with spots and stockings? No, not a chestnut. But whatever.

But now... She has turned gray?! What happened?

If you look at her sire's side, the horses in his pedigree have both the LP Varnish and Greying gene, which combined to make her grey out.

Grey happened :) Her foal picture shows adult colour, which is the first and early sign of grey on HWO (bay dun silver pintaloosa), and from there she gradually greys out. Her sire is grey too, and it only takes one copy, grey is dominant over every other colour.

Technically, she's just a grey. However many people also mention the colour under the grey. As I wrote before, she'd be bay dun silver pintaloosa (or bay dun silver blanket tobiano) under the grey.
