Model Horse Tack Commissions [open!]
Well hey thought this might be fun.
*Admins if it is not ok to charge irl money for crafts here, please let me know! No hard feelings :)
I'm a beginning model horse tack maker. I've made a few Western saddles, bridles, and breastplates. Because I'm still learning, I'm opening up commissions for much less than you'd pay from an experienced professional. My tack is most suited to gentle play or display. It has not been tested in shows, either photo or live. It may be competive in novice divisons.

Western set, based off working styles.

Wade-style Western saddle, work in progress.

Western bridle.
My portfolio right now is all Western, but I'm very willing to experiment! Right now, I'm willing to do Western sets (excluding parade or heavily tooled styles), English bridles, and halters (stable and show). I might go outside this range if you give me a challenge that I like. :D
-I only will do work for 1:9 scale models (Breyer Traditional).
-All my work is done in real leather, with nickle and/or pewter hardware. These pieces are not waterproof. They are also delicate. Definitely not appropriate for small children. Leather requires typical leather care.
-Bridles will ship with a small sample of sticky wax (used to hold bit shanks onto a model. Sticky wax is safe to use for long term display, and will not damage the model).
-I do not do fabric goods such as saddle pads.
Prices:
Bridle - Starts at $30 USD
Western Saddle - Starts at $50 USD
Full Western set (bridle, breastplate, saddle) - Starts at $70 USD
Halter - Starts at $20 USD
Prices will increase for complexity, as well as supplies that I'll need to specially order. I may give discounts on experimental pieces.
Notes:
-I will only have one commission slot open at a time. Once it's taken, I will not accept any other orders until the current one is complete. (I am also advertising through other websites, but will always update this post when a slot is open)
-Payment is due upfront. This is so I can purchase supplies.
-Transaction will be done through Etsy. Etsy does have a messaging feature, so all communication will be done through that. You need to have an Etsy account in order to contact me.
-Shipping costs are exact. I am located in the US, and right now will only ship to US addresses.
-I do reserve to right to refuse to work with someone.
-Because this transaction is conducted outside of HWO, any disputes will be handled through Etsy. They have guidelines in place for this.
Etsy shop link is here : https://www.etsy.com/shop/HazelwoodSaddlery
(As of this posting, I haven't set everything up yet.)
The Process:
-Post here with basic details! If I accept your commission, contact me through Etsy.
-We talk and hash out details.
Details include:
-I create a custom listing on my Etsy shop. You purchase that listing, and I can order supplies and get to work.
-I send you process updates. Some modifications can be requested.
-I show you the final piece before shipping. Limited modifications can be made at this point.
-You approve the final piece, and I ship it to you.
Cheers!

- Specific model. Sizing can vary depending on the sculpture, and details can vary based on the model's general tack-friendliness. Tack can fit on different models, but may not fit all of them equally well.
- Style of piece. Reference images are king! Color, construction details, hardware details, embellishments, etc. If you're not sure, I can help walk you through narrowing ideas down.
- Supplies. I'll send you hardware, material, and color lists. You can choose from what my suppliers offer.
-I create a custom listing on my Etsy shop. You purchase that listing, and I can order supplies and get to work.

Re: Model Horse Tack Commissions [open!]
Ahhh that sounds super exciting! :D Once again, gotta poke the note that my stuff isn't show-proven at all. xD It may be useful for novice divisions, but I know some novice divisions require that you make any tack and props yourself. Definitely depends on the show rules.Baranduin Brewster wrote: I might be very interested, I had plans to start showing my models.
Super awesome though, I really want to start live showing but it would require a lot of travel on my part lol, my regional shows are mostly in neighboring states.

Re: Model Horse Tack Commissions [open!]
Unproven, just means it needs a chance...I'm aiming for Breyerfest/West next year (was going this year, not to show just to watch, but obviously got derailed). I do plan on making some of my own tack, though I don't have Western on my list, beyond maybe some bosals. I lean towards, english and harness, with sewn stuff.Hazel wrote:Ahhh that sounds super exciting!Baranduin Brewster wrote: I might be very interested, I had plans to start showing my models.Once again, gotta poke the note that my stuff isn't show-proven at all. xD It may be useful for novice divisions, but I know some novice divisions require that you make any tack and props yourself. Ahh I'm sorry about this year's fest. :( Everything is crappy right now.Baranduin Brewster wrote:Unproven, just means it needs a chance...I'm aiming for Breyerfest/West next year (was going this year, not to show just to watch, but obviously got derailed). And ooh harness looks tricky! So much straps. xD The thought of prepping that much lace makes me cringe.
Oh my goodness congrats that's awesome! Do you have a photo?Dakotamccurley7 wrote: If you post some of it on Etsy I will buy some of it. I have an Appaloosa mare get 3rd at a breyerfest show it was crazy
Premade sales are definitely a thought, but I honestly have an easier time making things with a goal in mind--either for myself, or for someone specific. Quarantine brain has stalled a lot of my personal projects right now. xD But making something specfic for someone else? Brain can handle that just fine. :)
