Found this guy out at pasture too. Interesting sooty buckskin.

Re: Sooty Project At The Carousel

Too bad he isn't palomino

I'm sorry, I just had to LOL at the "I bred a giraffe" comment.
This gives me an idea for a project.....

Re: Sooty Project At The Carousel
I have bred a giraffe myself. His name was CP Emeka "Giraffe" lol. He was great, hilarious-looking horse. His foals looked mostly normal though haha.
Also! I noticed that some Exmoor Ponies appear to be dappled sooty. -heart eyes- Definitely going to have to add that to my herd. :3 Will you consider putting up for stud any of your dappled sooty boys?

Re: Sooty Project At The Carousel
I will. I am going to try to get some sooty dapple Forest Horses and some dark sooty maybe dapple Turkmenes and those will go up for stud. If you see a stud you are dying to breed to though, just message me! I can easily put up some studs.Revenant wrote:I have bred a giraffe myself. His name was CP Emeka "Giraffe" lol. Re: Sooty Project At The Carousel
Oh, it's all right. I can wait until you are ready. ^^ I am grateful you are even willing to put them up. Sometimes people prefer keeping a "closed stable" or similar...

Re: Sooty Project At The Carousel
I think I have done it! I *think* I have a YEARLING that is showing dapples!
I've come across a gene in FHs that puts sooty on dark by 1 year of age. It seems to be a recessive trait, though I am guessing. I call them "super" sooties. I have been trying for a while now to get a super sooty with dapples.
Here he is

Barrel close up:
It's still hard to see, but I am almost 100% certain he has dapples.

Re: Sooty Project At The Carousel
I found another foundation Turkmene that throws dappled babies!

He is the 3rd* line for dapples in my herd. *Though I did have a 4th dappled Turkmene, a mare. She only had one offspring that I kept (he was dappled), but his sire was one of the other 2 dapple lines, so I am not sure who the colt inherited his dapples from. Because of this, I don't consider her one of my dapple lines.
