Horse Breed Evolution
Hello all,
I'm working on some papers for my studies and as part of this I'm going into evolution of horse breeds. I love horses a lot so this is an arena I actually want to go a little more into more detail then I probably need to but you know haha. I found this game and thought this would be a great place to ask people for any documents, papers, or general information seeing as it's about developing breeds; Anything about how breeds have evolved from each other, genetics, genetic make up, famous lines, conformation, breed connections, etc. More the merrier is awesome thank you!

Re: Horse Breed Evolution
This is a game and though based on reality, there are certain 'author liberties' taken to make things fit together well. Our breed 'evolution' has much basis in fact, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you should take it at face value and base your paper on it.Pinasuarus wrote:Hello all,

However, some intriguing things you might want to focus on your paper are arabians and thoroughbreds. And I might suggest you only focus on those two (you can actually turn it into a full-blown thesis or 25 volume set with the histories of just these two breeds). Anyway, the things you should consider with just these two breeds is that arabians, one of the oldest breeds in the world, have an additional neck vertebrae that is not shared in any other breed (at least the last time I checked, which is arguably quite some time ago) and that the thoroughbred had a hand in almost every other modern breed still existing today, perhaps not directly, but maybe indirectly through other breeds. If you focus on those two singular breeds, you will find enough information across the internet to suffice for your paper.
To give you a small taste of what those two breeds could have likely offered to our world, take a look at our breeds wiki for them:
Arabian
Thorougbred
The list of breeds on the right under the heading 'Breeds Created' is the list of breeds that directly (and not indirectly) use this breed in the recipe that creates it.
If you want something a little more centered, try running a short internet search for primitive European horse breeds. There are a few that are extinct that may (or may not) have contributed to our horses through the eons. Like the tarpan or the przewalski.
Tackling a paper covering 'all' horses or 'all' horse breeds through the ages isn't feasible for a paper for schooling. Such a thing is a life-work. Just on this game alone we have 328 breeds. There is a lot more basic breeds out there and a lot more of what could possibly be described as sub-breeds, like the spotted draft, which is not an actual breed on this game, but considered a color. HWO also doesn't generally have regional breeds either (like the Nez Perce Horse).

Oh I do believe I haven't explained something well, I did not mean to imply I was using this game as reference as taking a look around I can already see some creative licensing so to speak at least to the current knowledge I have. I was thinking the people here however as a community may share an interest in this field to a point that others might also have good reference material and information I could study to help with my writings. Sorry if that was a miscommunication haha. I do believe I got ahead of myself writing that first post at the time by saying "all" and there may be an expectation of this being slightly larger then what I am meaning haha. I am well ahead of the life work that goes into such a paper covering them all, rather a more revised set of smaller referencing material to outer breeds from a general link.
Arabian horses and Thoroughbreds are certainly on my list with their prominent links for further research. I do have a keen interest in Akhal-Tekes as a heavily misunderstood breed though evolution and development of our more modern breeds. Just surrounding those three is actually an insane mix and mystery of tales and information that has been mixed around a lot throughout history which then lead to a huge rise in the Arabian horse numbers and a fall in Akhal-tekes.

Well, we do have all types here on HWO.Pinasuarus wrote:

Though I don't know of any particular person I might send you to (of course my memory might be lacking in that area and if so, I do apologize), but there is indeed a certain type of person that is attracted to this game and this community.
If you ask around a bunch and ask the relevant questions, there are quite a few of us that could help you along and it does sound like you can aid us as well.
I didn't think you were using this game as a reference site, I did think that the information you might be searching for would be hard pressed and perhaps impossible to find truth here in some cases.
I do recommend visiting the breeding community forum. The breed topics are pulled from internet sources on real sites and in most cases are what could be considered factual. There is brief histories and even evolution in some cases.
Welcome to the community and let us know if you have any questions, comments, concerns and so forth.
