Re: Part and Mixed Breeds in Breed Rankings
I breed pure Norfolk Trotters so thanks!

Re: Part and Mixed Breeds in Breed Rankings
OK, I've filled up all the classes as best I can with my Norfolk specialty stable (Crystal Palace). I can affirm that A x B breds show up in the list when you try to enter but are NOT allowed entry.
Unfortunately, Harness Races only allow one entry per stable but I filled up the Driven Dressage!

Re: Part and Mixed Breeds in Breed Rankings
Sorry, wasn't trying to single out NFs. I was just using them as an example! A lot of the individual breed rankings have similar issues. It's not the fault of the people campaigning mixed breeds! They should keep campaigning them as their horses deserve to compete.
It's more like a filter correction that we probably need.

Re: Part and Mixed Breeds in Breed Rankings
Some of us have mixed breeds because our horses won't produce purebreds even when we have the right breed recipe!

Re: Part and Mixed Breeds in Breed Rankings
Or the cross is a "stepping stone" -- there are a considerable number of (Tarpan x WAB)s out there because that's half of a Sorraia. Sorraias lead to Andalusians, which are prerequisites for many others.
Sometimes, when the horse doesn't turn out to be "pure", it has a better-than-average breeder's report as a consolation prize. You see a number of "Half Norfolk Trotter"s because they failed at Hackney.

Re: Part and Mixed Breeds in Breed Rankings
For the record, I think everyone is fine with Half NFs (or Half Arabians or Half Mustangs) being counted on the Breed Filter Ranking List because they can enter purebred shows.
It's just not consistent for Norfolk Trotters x Belgian Draft or Arabian x Tarpan (or whatever) to be in the filtered breed top lists when they can't compete in breed shows. And it's frustrating for purebred breeders who spend all of their time trying to perfect their breeds that there is nowhere they can look to see a list of top purebreds.
A x B partbreds have every right to compete and be ranked in the Top Horses list. Just not in the Top Purebreds filter!

Re: Part and Mixed Breeds in Breed Rankings
OK, so let's have that filter for competitive listings as well as for stallions at stud.
Having the not-quite-pure horses described as best the computer can is some help. Imagine if we didn't have the designations "Part", "Half", or "Mixed", and all those tens of thousands were classified simply as "Grade".
I respect, profoundly, all players who are working toward better horses -- however anyone chooses to do it.
BTW, your pure Norfolks are probably going to beat my Half Norfolk in Driven Dressage tonight, whether traits consistent with the breed are judged as a bonus or not.

Re: Part and Mixed Breeds in Breed Rankings
Well actually, there is a purebred filter for stallions at stud (it filters out A x B, but also leaves in Half and Mixed - but I think that's fine as they count as purebreds in breeding). But you're right we do need a competitive listings filter - not just for breeds but in general. I think Larissa may be working on it?
(Part/Mixed/Half I think we're all in agreement that they should count in the filters. It's the A x B that shouldn't be in purebred filters - I think has been stated multiple times on this thread.)
I don't have any pure Norfolks myself, but I put a mixed one in to help get the competitions run!

Re: Part and Mixed Breeds in Breed Rankings
And now your horses register in the competition rankings
!

Re: Part and Mixed Breeds in Breed Rankings
Noticed that the Harness Racing for Norfolk Trotters classes have more entrants now. I will leave them up until they run or Monday, March 14.
