Looking for a New Project

Post by Electron »

Getting a little bored with my current Arabian project, so I've started considering adding in another side project to spice things up a bit. I am open to all kinds of ideas, although I would prefer to not be attempting to create any long-pedigree breeds, as this is only a side project (for now).

I have considered creating a new line of pony sized Arabians that still have the light horse type frame and good remarks in stamina and intelligence, but I am not sure if they would be useful to anyone, or if they would be more of a novelty item.

I'd prefer to deal with only ancient breeds, but I'm open to any option. In short, I'm looking to supply a demand.. I've just not found a demand yet. So yeah, nothing is off the table at this point, and all suggestions, ideas, and opinions are very welcome! :D

 This is only amusing because you know how much apathy I have towards color breeding. Haven't been following that thread much, but like I said, I'm open to everything... even *gulp* color breeding.

Abaco Barbs!

I started playing and jumped off the deep end. Right now I'm breeding for 5* Spanish Barbs and 5* Garrano. Then starting on the Abaco Barbs. Trying for very little inbreeding.

To be honest, there probably would be a decent demand for quality pony sized arabs. Arabs are a key ingredient in almost all long pedigreed horse/pony breeds, and so a pony sized arab is likely to be useful in such programs.

Eventually I want to start an 'improve all the foundies project'. Particularly Caspians and the other foundies that are really only used to produce new breeds. There's nothing worse than getting stuck at terrible AC genetics. I'd also like my project to have a true-breeding stallion of all colors for your color breeders out there.

A stallion that carries all of the dilution genes, you mean?

No, I'd want:

an ee aa lplp etc etc stallion.

an EE aa lplp etc etc stallion.

so on and so forth. A homozygous horse of every color. Though that's a lot for one person. But it would be nice for people looking to introduce a specific set of genetics into their herd.

Probably too much of a time commitment for a side project right now.

Would anyone want these? I'd like to do something that would help progress other's projects too.

Not a bad idea.

Keep the ideas coming, folks! Not been a bad one yet! :D

I too have a long term "improve all the foundies" project goal, and a long term goal to improve some of the important but less popular "in between" breeds used for the creation of popular breeds. Maybe you could pick one of those, like the Carthusian for example? You could offer one up to stud to improve the quality of available stallions. I haven't actually been bored on here yet, but something I like to do for fun is pick out a cool horse from the sales to train/compete with, and breed to a few of my main horses just to see what I get. Sometimes I get a really useful and unique horse that way! :)
