Colt Overload

Post by Argent II »

I have three pastures full of nice colts that I'm hoping to use. That's at least 36 years/foal crops. And I'm bound to get more usable colts as I go. Meanwhile, I have to settle for just acceptable mares and fillies ._______. It feels ten times worse when I get a crop that's mostly colts because I end up culling 20+ nice horses because I only take the best colt from each year, but then I'm left with a bunch of subpar fillies to choose from. Anyone else suffering from an attack of Chromosome Y?

I have only managed to get colts when trying for new breeds, the fillys always come up as cross breeds

There are always more colts than fillies for sale so it must be a widespread thing. I have slightly more colts than fillies.

Tell me about it! I have good colts coming out of my ears that I'm having to rehome and distinctly average fillies in what feels like smaller numbers...

I've managed to cull down to 12 active colts, but I still think I have too many.

I wouldn't be opposed to changing the ratio of colts to filles to 40/60 lol

Yes a 40/60 split makes more sense (in favour of females) I just bred six foals and got a 40/60 in favour of males! I know the basic premise behind the supposed 50/50 split is Fishers principle, but given that an egg is XX and a sperm is XY, if you put that into a punnet square you don't get a 50/50 split!

You do get a 50/50 split if you punnett the two genes.

I've just gotten over my all colts run and am now beginning to get a more even number of colts and fillies, which is good. the 40/60 ratio would be good.

Three foals this morning, all colts! So out of ten breedings I've had 8 colts and two fillies! And that's not counting 3 colts I already bred that are sat on my other account waiting for fillies. In total I'm 11/2 in favour of colts!
I did a lot of thinking about all this over the weekend, when I looked at horses for sale there were roughly 300 females and 600 males, so at any time there are roughly twice as many males for sale, and don't forget that a lot of players will just rehome colts and not even bother trying to sell them.
The problem is that males are perceived as having lower value, and most games try to get round this by giving geldings showing bonuses, but even that doesn't help because not many people want to buy geldings.
Unrealistic as it might be, I think a shift in favour of fillies would make the game more playable.
