Feeding Issue

Post by Shazza »

I have a 16 Inch, 4 year & 5 month old colt that I put into my barn. I want to train him up for showing (Thus I need him to maintain good weight and energy levels).
I have him on 100%Performance mix. My farm hand suggests that he have 0.5kg of feed to maintain his weight and energy.

The issue is that the feed bar only goes up to 0.3kg of food for him! He is losing a considerable amount of weight every day (he may be starved very soon at this rate). Also since I cant increase his feed to the proper level, his energy is at: 65%, 32% Training.

I can't train him effectively as his energy is to low when I re-roll the day.

Feeding very small or very large horses and ponies is much more difficult than feeding average sized horses. They are tricky to get the right balance. Just as in real life horses can only eat a maximum of about 2.5 to 3% of their body weight. Since you have your horse in heavy training he needs to eat more but he physically can't. When your horse gains more weight over time he'll be able eat more but this might take time and would likely require a training break. In the case of your horse I would suggest keeping him in a pasture for a few days so he can continue grazing all day long in addition to the grain you're giving him.

I do not keep any foals under 10 months in a barn, because you cannot feed them enough, they need grass. Once they are over 10 months you can put them in a barn and feed them grain mixes as you like. You also need to make sure you have enough 'Money' to feed your horses in a barn.
