Unusual Coat Expression

Post by BlackOak2 »

Wondering if anybody else has seen this coat expression on another horse that is NOT leopard and NOT graying.

I'm wondering because I've seen these flecks on leopard varnish and graying coat colors, but not on any other coats. So it could be a glitch coat color.

Anyway, double pearl, dun, likely pangare, sooty, and dappled sooty. On bay.
Mare in question: http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/2337237

They are a little hard to see, the other gallery image of her head also has them as well.

If it's not a potential coat glitch, I'm wondering if this could be another expression of the sooty gene, or maybe the sooty dapple gene.

Thoughts?

Edited to add: I forgot to mention, no roan, leopard, or graying genes on this line. No cream or champagne either.

It does look a bit like roan. But there's no roan in her line. Just dun, pangare, sooty, dapple sooty... pearl. Unless I've missed something.

It looks similar to this one. This one has light dapples.
Maybe she has an even lighter dapple causing the "roaning" look.

Hmmm... there DOES appear to be the barest hints to freckling with the dapples. Thank You.
I wonder if PeacefulOreo has taken notice of this.

I have a sooty dapples question for you. Have you seen freckles appear alongside the sooty dapples, like the mare in the first post?

I also have a mare similar to the one you had questions about. Came from your lines but bred out. She is sooty + very slight dapple. as her mom i think was dapple

That might be the proof of the theory then, because the mare I'm questioning doesn't share any blood with anybody else in HWO... so if you have one that came from my barn, it still would be entirely unrelated to the mare in question.

It's too hard for me to see on her.

But that does bring up the question if it's directly related to pearl, because every one of these horses are pearls. Including your mare, which, unless I'm mistaken, is a pearl-cream.

But she is. A cream-pearl.

All the Ida x Henry Canadian Pacers are either pearl carriers or double pearls. And since his dame is a double pearl, that means that this stallion is a cream-pearl, the cream gene coming from his sire. At least he looks to be a double cream on champagne. I suppose he could also be a single pearl carrier too, but I don't think so.

I don't think it's connected to the pearl gene. I think it's likely part of the sooty dapple gene, I just don't know.
