Temperaments and Record Holders?

Post by tazza_t_bear »

Were some temperaments implemented much later than others? I was doing an analysis of types and temperaments of record holders across all disciplines today and, when I look at 5 examples for each discipline, only 5/110 horses had a temperament other than bombproof or high strung.

I can see that making sense if bombproof/high strung were the only options in the early horses and therefore have drifted to high frequency in developed lines, but if all temperaments were available at the start AND temperament has any effect on show scores then it's really odd that you never see some of the other temperaments? :geek:

Temperament is influenced by feed.

Grass seems to make them calmer and since most horses are kept on pastures that explains why many are bombproof :)

yes you're right! Feed will affect temperament and it affects how they show too.
