Exmoor Color

Post by Revenant »

Okay, so I've figured out how I want my American Cream Drafts, but my other one color breed is the Exmoor. I know the standard calls for "mealy" or pangare brown with no white markings, but what is everyone thinking? Going by photographs, I'd say some of the horses are dark bay or wild bay. Some of them might be sooty. So I'm wondering what breeders are thinking, regarding what of the A Series should be included (just At, or A and A+ as well?) and whether or not sooty should be allowed.

I'm not doing Exmoors, but just from looking at photos, if I wanted to stay true to life I'd have everything be homozygous black, and either seal brown or bay. No wild bay. Maybe 50/50 pangare or not and if sooty snuck in I'd probably just leave it, mostly because in my experience it's kind of a nightmare to breed it out completely on purpose. Ugh.

Thanks for your input. :)

Dun is allowed according to the breed society, but not black.
