Bri56830 offered some handy items to keep in mind.

To further that's already been said, here's some more.

Take your time. This is a massive game that can get deeply involved. But you don't need to play that way. The best thing about this game is that you can design and play the game the way you want. There's a lot of choice and maneuverability in the game, such as, if you want to make a 22 hand tall shetland pony, you can do that here. We have racing belgians and spotted arabians and quite a few unique breeds that fall all over the scale. But that doesn't mean we don't also have players that strictly adhere to real life restrictions. We have plenty of those styles of players as well. :D

If you get stuck, ask the community, we do our best to help you understand or get you out of your issue. We also have quite a few newbie aid, if you want some help in that area, other than answering questions. For the newbie aid, we do ask our newbies to go looking for it (but if you still can't find it, we help there too ;) ).

Take a look at the help, guides section, there's a lot there. Plus in my signature, there's a link labeled Quick-Links, if you go there, there's a heading that takes you to the newbie topics. There's also a direct link in my signature for quick-starting newbies. That link offers some important information about what you might want to know as the game currently stands.

In that quick-starting guide for newbies is a section dedicated to issues with the tutorial. You don't need to finish the tutorial to play the game, you can ignore it.

Spots for horses on your farm is at a premium, you might want to learn them in your player skills first. Training takes time and effort, but it can be worth it, public trainers are still also at a premium and costs for them can get quite expensive quite quickly for new players (we have newbie rates offered by some public trainers to help).

And lastly, long projects can be quite lucrative. If you have an idea in mind and it takes you time to achieve that goal, such a goal can still earn you quite a bit of money, either competing your horses, or by eventually opening to public stud or sale.

Everything else is learned as you go. Like I said at the beginning, take your time.

Thank you so much this really helped. What do you think a good simple breed is to start on? I have decided to do boarding as a way of initially earning money. Do you think this sounds okay?
Thanks
