Yes, they do. Mare's and stallions both use 10% energy for each breeding.

If you have two accounts, you can also transfer (via private sale only) to the other account, age your stallion, then transfer that stallion back into the frozen account (again, only via private sale).

Private sale is the little box click, then leave the amount blank or put in 0, all still located in the sell horse button on the horse profile page.
