Welsh Cob Stallion At Stud

Post by reyn »

Finally succeeded in breeding a true to type Welsh Cob stallion so here he is available to all you lovely people :).

There have been so few studs available he'll add some much needed new blood, and he's been bred to have a heavy build and feathering as a true Welsh Cob would.

No Reds, green Intelligence, and a low COI.

I would very much like to get some Welsh cob blood into my breeding program which is needed to help start the suffolk punch breeding. I thought i was going to not have to do a second crossing but it looks like ill have to excell in the Bell X Trot and the welsh X TB. I'll probably need anyhere from 1-20 coverings to find a proper build. =)

Hi Warband, probably best if you send me a PM :). I put him up for public stud and ended up with a lot of breeding within his first few days so I took him back off again as I don't want him to have 100s of offspring! The only other solution is putting up a high stud fee but I breed and rehome till I get what I need myself and I know it can be unfair to have a high stud fee in place.

If you need a really heavy build maybe you could use him to breed a half Welsh Cob that you can use in your own breeding program without the need to be on public stud duties? Use a heavy grade horse mare or maybe a Belgian x Forest Horse mare. Just a thought :) (I'd also recommend doing this with the lighter breeds in your program such as TBs, it was the only way I managed to get the build needed for a Welsh Cob in the first place!). I'm a bit wary to put him on public stud for the potential time period you would need as he already has 17 foals and that was only from a few days :/.

I am also in the process of breeding another line of Welsh Cob so watch this space for some more new blood.
