Acceptable COI? Opinions?

I'm planning on taking on one of the rarer breeds (Giara pony or Sardinian, as I lived in Sardegna and loved both breeds), but as the only breeder I expect to be running into some genetic dead ends. My plan for now is to breed 4 different lines as my foundies, maybe five, but then what? You quickly keep running out of fresh blood and it takes a long time to breed it yourself! So what is every ones opinions on COI scores? No inbreeding? Some inbreeding? I know on other similar games, some people won't purchase a linebred horse for the principle of the matter, but I also feel like they don't understand why linebreeding is valuable.

I personally like to keep my scores under 25% if possible. When creating the harder breeds I find that inbreeding is must. My Standardbreds are quite inbred at the moment because there are only two Narragansett Pacers at stud. I believe I read somewhere on here, that the COI doesn't affect competition unless it is over 45 (Correct me if I am wrong).

In real life, COI over about 5% is detrimental. In this game, it doesn't matter.

Personally, I don't care about COI since there are no negative effects from it. There are so many other things to watch (evaluation, conformation, stats, colors, etc) that something has to give. So I chose to give on that.

By the way, I just finished breeding Sella Italiani, so I had to make Giara Ponies and Sardinians on the way here. If you want me to give you some starting stock, I'd be happy to.

It's good to hear that most people aren't concerned about it. I personally didn't care too much, but I also didn't want to end up with unsaleable stock (if there is any one who will ever need/want them haha)

Anne- do you have any pure Giara ponies left? I'd imagine they were quite a few generations back. For now, I'm more focused on breeding an excellent line of Giara and then down the road working towards the Sardinians

At least under 17%. I predict that in the future it will have an effect. Keeping it low now and it will cause less headaches in the future when the entire herd has physical mutations or junk like that.

This is an accurate prediction. In the future very high COIs (definition of "very high" not determined yet) will have negative effects.

My IHDs are 95%, too. This is going to make working with only 36 broodmares even more difficult.

I do. I kept a stallion and two mares in my alt account in case I ever need to breed more. I could breed you a few foals, if you'd like me to? I can't play now, but later or tomorrow I should be able to.
