Rare Breeds?

Post by Alaina »

I feel there will be other breeders out there with the same issue so here it goes:

I breed Kaimanawa horses which is a New Zealand wild mountain horse. I am the only one on here that breeds them. There are 77 in the game currently and they all belong to me.
Now, getting to my point. I breed 20 foals each season and then I keep one stud and three fillies. The other 16 foals I rehome. These include foals with greens (sometimes even two!) great conformation, great breeder's reports. I can't keep them all because I simply don't have the room.
I was thinking maybe breeder's of other rare or obscure breeds would want to band together and maybe formulate an idea on how to go about garnering more interest in our breeds? I love my Kaimanawa, I really do. They hold half the Hunter records hostage and they win often enough. But what's the point of seeing that breed leaderboard fill up when I know I'm the only one who has them? XD

I was tossing around a couple of ideas. The first is maybe start a topic for new players to come and have a squizz around and maybe people could offer to donate one/a pair/a trio of their breed in the hopes that it would encourage said new player to stick with them.

The other idea which I like better is to run a raffle similar to what Argent does but raffle off our horses. Again you can raffle off a single horse, a pair, a trio, whatever suits. You can enter them in the raffle whenever you please (once a week, once a fortnight, once a month) and we can either rotate a different breed each week or throw them all in and let people choose which breed they want to enter for.

Finally, we can just leave this topic open and discuss our breeds in the hopes that people will stumble upon it and maybe take an interest.

I think that this is a great idea! I think I will need something like this once I finally reach my destination (Vladimir Heavy Drafts, i don't even have Suffolks yet).
P.S. I would be interested in buying a Kaimanawa or two, i have one in real life(he's the one responsible for breaking our round pen xD) We got him as a friend for the pair(mare and foal) we got from the Ruatoria sales, when we weaned the filly. They're best buddies now =)

I definitely had plans to lease out Lipis to players for dirt-cheap before I realized that I needed all of my horse spaces. My goal was to have an entire stud farm dedicated to producing horses for the public to use, but my preference for working with large herds and the limits on horses don't allow for it.

I would definitely be willing to donate a couple of Dutch Harness Horses and/or Hackney Ponies to a raffle once I've achieved good type for them. I am the only person that breeds either breed. I've had people buy some of my retired breeding horses but they're always used for crossbreeding, never for producing purebreds.

How did I let a kiwi escape my notice on here? XD I haven't had the pleasure of owning one in real life but my whole farm theme is New Zealand and i thought it only made sense to have a "native" breed. I have 45 youngsters growing up so once they're of age I'll be in touch! Can't wait to see your drafties!

Oh you and your giant 422 horse project! XD

Excellent! I think the raffle idea is probably the best one. Who could resist a chance at a free (or $1 as the case may be) horse?!

I'm all for this. I keep changing my breeding plans because I keep feeling restless. The more popular breeds don't feel like a "fit" for me but yet the breeds that are a fit for me leave me feeling kind of isolated. I love the ethnic breeds here. It's fun to see someone who's Canadian breeding Canadian Horses or someone who's Ukranian going after Ukranian Saddles. I'm currently working towards Sella Italiano and have Italian Heavy Drafts on hold in my spare account. I'd be happy to chip in both breeds (after I get my Sella Italiano rolling, anyway) towards a raffle or to donate for free to new players.

Alaina, your Kaimanawa horses are Amazing. I see them winning against my competition horses all the time. Any new player would be honored to have such prize champions from your herd. My destination breeds are all bred through the Quarter Horse combinations. But I might use some of your Kaimanawas in my second account once it can have more horses. That would be great. Keep up the excellent work.

I'm limiting myself to be under 422. My ideal would be 512 or 640 on one account XD

I'd be willing to chip in a Canadian, possibly even a Canadian Warmblood (last time I checked I had the only two on HWO, both stallions ;-; but both carry silver!)

I'm all for spreading the love of Canadians around. They're such an amazing breed!

YES PLEASE

This idea is a godsend!
There are around 70 Aegidienbergers in the game, 1 has been sold and still lives. Hurray!
Would love to distribute my Aegidienbergers to ANY person! If this succeeds, it's going to be raining Aegidienbergers (might have to start competing and earning a reputation though, heh). Prepare, people ;)

I am also very much up for the idea of a forum topic.
