Okay, those are some REALLY good tries, both in attempts and in how they turned out. So smile, you're doing good and your attempts are quite entertaining. All in a good way.

Okay, so in one of your attempts, you have the code like this:

The name needs to go on the outside of the brackets, not between, so move 'Red Velvet' over to the right, so it looks like this instead:

For where to get the id number that goes where you were putting the name of the horse, it's found in the address bar.
Open a new tab with the following horse link.
http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/2053663

Then find this number in the address bar:
2053663

Do you see where this number is? This number is the id number of the horse. This number is unique to EACH horse on HWO, so each horse will have a different number in that spot.

This is the number you will put in that code, so it looks like this:

You understand the use of the code. So you're good there. And now you should understand where to find the id of each horse. If you still can't figure it out, we'll try again to help you understand.

Now for the pinging.

Should have been again on the outside of the brackets (which you did do), but BETWEEN the code (which you missed).
So instead of being like above, it would need to be like below:

And you wouldn't need the extra: quote][/quote

In essence what you tried to do with the code you used, was ping yourself. In order to ping somebody else, their name, Exactly as there name is on HWO, would need to replace yours.
