Noobs and breeding communities
Forum rules
Each breed may have only one topic. The first post in the topic is to be informative. It should help explain the breed, and breeding goals; advice on how to select mares and stallions; and links to ideal Stallions available for breeding.
Keeping a directory of breeders working on the same goal is also helpful.
All new threads must be approved.
A lot of new kids just start playing, have great motivation and without ever breeding one horse start a breeding community. The Rules are listen above and often i reported treads for not being informative, but after a while the mods just didnt care anymore because it happens to often.
I suggest that new players (that play less than 1 year) are NOT allowed to start a tread in the breeding community
They spam the section with bull and requests that should be in general or sales forum. Make me moderator of the breeding communities, i'll clean up all that crap those kids posted.
The Rules are already there, but it seems nobody cares, and reporting is useless.
IF YOU CANT BREED A BREED YOU ARE NOT A BREEDING COMMUNITY, Breeding community are the people that breed horses not the people that are dreaming of breeding horses.
IF you are a kid and you are offended by my post, remember that i didnt post it for you, i posted this for the adults that rules this game.

Re: Noobs and breeding communities
I've never paid attention to the breeding communities forum. Mainly because I don't breed a specific one and the one I do breed (leopard tarpans) are not available to the public.
But there is truth to what you've written. There is a lot of junk filling up the breeding community forum.
I don't mind having special or inclusive breeds as a different topic though. For instance, spotted arabians, since arabians are not spotted as a breed. Or cream shires for the same reason.
But I do agree that a breeding community should not be started until AFTER the breed has been kept. Of the ones I did take interest in enough to read the topic post, they were done correctly. Some are beautifully written to the great standards of the forum.
But I don't know how to go about correcting it. I personally don't agree to the restriction of less than a year not posting, simply because we can achieve a great deal of breeds here within a month through breeding and purchasing. I don't have another suggestion to aid with the issue though...

Thanks for the reply, its good to see you also think there is a lot of junk.BlackOak2 wrote:..
My idea of the breeding section is that when i breed new breeds and want to improve certain stock, i can take a look in the breeders section to easily find out what breeders make what breed. but now people that dont even have the breed start a breeding community.
Also i like to read the topic post about a breed and learn something, but noobs dont write any info or post pictures.
I agree when you say some new players can achieve a lot of breeds and play very well, but if thats the only agrument for not using a restriction i need more convincing

Lets see, do I have a better one?
Yes, barely, breeding communities aren't permanent. When our admins apply that section into the game, the forum may disappear anyway. Did I remember that correctly?
If I had to apply a restriction, I think I would apply it as having no less then 5 of the breed on the farm that posts, rather than restricting it by age of the profile.
But I am with you, I too, like reading about a new breed, it's history and the like and like I said before, I do agree that there are posts that don't fulfill that basic area. Even it's a self-created breed, make up some history or use the history of your creation here on HWO. Of course, with the notation that it is a self-created breed.

Re: Noobs and breeding communities
As one adult player to another, I just wanted to step in and note that your behavior towards younger players here has been extremely inappropriate.8arbarossa wrote: IF you are a kid and you are offended by my post, remember that i didnt post it for you, i posted this for the adults that rules this game.
HWO was designed as a game for all ages. That's the game owners' decision, not yours.
I pretty much grew up on games like this. Many of my most cherished online friendships have been with people who are much older than I, even when I was a teenager. Was I obnoxious sometimes? Sure. And that's part of growing up. Kids learn good community behavior through watching and engaging with other people. You need to take this into account when you're in a space with minors in it, and make an effort to model appropriate behavior.
If you don't want to interact with younger players, that's fine, that's your decision. Put a note on your profile saying so, and be polite when turning down interactions with minors. You want to create a forum thread for adult players to chat with each other? That's also fine. But HWO was designed as an inclusive space, and you need to remember that when participating in the community. Being rude to, and using hostile language towards younger players goes against the kind of community we're trying to cultivate here.
This will be the only post I make on the subject. I'm not trying to start an argument. I'm hoping that you'll make changes to your behavior going forward. If you can't, then maybe participating in the HWO community is not for you. There are a number of sim games online that have 16+ communities, which may be to more your taste.

Re: Noobs and breeding communities
I'd disagree on this one. For example, I was posting on the Sorraia breeders topic after I've spent ages on trying to create a Sorraia, but long before I succeeded. I loved to be able to see what stallions other people have used that were successful etc. If there wasn't already a Sorraia topic, I'd probably would have created one.BlackOak2 wrote:If I had to apply a restriction, I think I would apply it as having no less then 5 of the breed on the farm that posts, rather than restricting it by age of the profile.8arbarossa wrote:
The way the breed creation works here, one might find themselves devoted to a certain breed several steps before actually having the breed - like two steps down the ladder. Same goes for revival of extinct breeds.
I think simply imposing the rules already there would work just fine.

Re: Noobs and breeding communities
I agree that there a lot of topics in the breeding communities forum that do not belong. However I do not think putting an account age restriction on the forum is the best way to correct the problem. Especially not at a threshold of one year, as one year is a ridiculously long timespan in terms of internet age.Tjigra wrote:BlackOak2 wrote:
What I think is more likely to help is topic approval, much like how admins must already approve posts from players below a certain amount of posts. If the forum was locked to approved topics only that would require each topic to go through a certain amount of quality control. This would not discriminate against new players vs old or young players vs adults but would still ensure that first posts are informative and actually belong in the breeding communities forum.
