What does tack do?

Hi, I'm new and am wondering what the purpose of tack is? Is it just for decoration or does it have an effect on training and etc.? Thanks. :)

Just for decoration.
It is unclear of whether any tack at all will ever have any affect on future additions. The general consensus by the community is that such buyables will NOT have a direct affect on horses (to keep the playing field even and to inhibit such things as the ability to buy one's way to the top).
