I got my mare color tested!

Post by Silverine »

In preparation for breeding my mare I decided to go ahead and get her color tested. It's the first time I've ever had a horse tested (also the first time I've been able to afford it ) and while the results aren't crazy in any way it is still super neat to know what she is.

In case you haven't seen her, this is my mare:

I got her tested for red factor, agouti, and white markings excluding appaloosa patterns. I didn't test for cream, champagne, or any of the fancy things because she quite obviously doesn't have them and the more you test for the more you have to pay.

Her results were as follows:
-Red Factor (Extension): E/E
-Agouti: A/a
-Tobiano: To/N
-All other whites: N/N

A caveat about her agouti test: Mojo is brown. In-game we have a A+/At/A/a system. Real-life tests can only tell if the agouti gene is recessive or not. It can't tell apart the (theorized) differences in the big A. So anything that's not a recessive black gene will show up as an A. If she were an in-game horse she would be At/a.

That's so cool! I remember the naming contest before her show... how did she do?

She did very well, especially considering she had had absolutely no dressage training until like two months before the show. She'd been a trail and occasional cow pony before. She scored 61/59 on her first two tests (intro a/b) and since then we've been consistently scoring 65 and up but haven't breached 70 just yet.
