Amateur Breeding Project - R&B Farms

Post by R_B3891 »

Hi! I started this project about a week ago, but I thought it might be nice to just post about my progress as a relative noob to crossbreeding.

Little intro: I wanted to have a clear goal in playing the game so I thought, hey, why not try to breed a horse breed that doesn't have any in-game horses? So, yeah. I'm aiming for the Murakosi, outlined all the breeding I would need to get there, all the prices, and here I am. I don't expect to be the first to breed it, truly, but love a good challenge! :D *Note: I mean it when I say that crossbreeding is pretty new to me, and would appreciate any tips from others!*

I'm starting out with a few base horses (Arabian, Turkmene, Thoroughbred, Percheron mares) and have an Arab x Thoroughbred filly plus a Turkmene x Mongolian colt maturing atm. These will be used to breed a Trakehner while I start up breeding the Gidran and Hanoverian. I know some of these could potentially bought, but I think it would be more satisfactory to breed them out. :D

Anyways, thanks for your time and I hope you enjoy the journey! \(#°^°#)/

Welcome to the game! And congrats on finding a goal for yourself!

And what a goal! Aiming for breeding from scratch any breed can be a very difficult task, even if you chose to ignore that inbreeding is 'bad' or 'wrong' and use inbreeding to accomplish your goal.

A few things to keep in mind:
First, inbreeding has no consequences right now, so you can create a tree that doesn't branch (breed two full siblings and breed them together for another set of full siblings), without worrying about negatives. There are players that care about COI (coefficient of inbreeding, it offers how many genes may be identical, essentially), and players that don't, and even players that WANT high COI. It's personal preference at this point (COI issues will be introduced sometime in the future, but is right now unscheduled).
Second, (you already might know this one) just because the recipe horses are correct, doesn't mean you'll get the required breed. It may take quite a few breedings and even a few generations before you get the breed you want. The closer you are to fulfilling the requirements of the new breed, the better your chances. But even if you have perfect parents, it still doesn't mean you'll get the new breed. Purchasing the book from the book marketplace will aid you in getting closer to the breed you want.
Third, grade horses are your friends. Use a grade horse that you produce or that's from the market to correct the horse you have. For instance, if your requirement says you need a pony type and you have a horse type, use a grade horse to give the next generation a heavier build. Keep in mind though, that a crossed horse (example would be an arabian x thoroughbred), when bred to a grade horse, will produce (or should produce) another grade, so only single named breeds will come out as single named breed offspring (so a half arabian will come out as a part arabian). I hope you understand that, if you don't, perhaps I can locate examples.

That's all I can think of right now.
Good Luck!

Hi R_B3891,

First of all, welcome to the game! I saw that you are looking into breeding the Murakosi breed. As it happens, I am too! If you would like, we can work together to bring the Murakosi breed back from extinction. I believe that partnering would help us in the long run. If you aren't interested, that's no problem! Just know that I would be willing to help you out if you should choose to ask. My one suggestion to you is to use the stallions that are for stud. Some of the breeds that are required can be quite hard to breed, and/or are very expensive to buy. For more information, I would suggest going to my farm log, "Murakosi Breeding Project".

I hope that we can work together on this!

Sure! I know how hard it would be to breed every single rare horse needed since most of the rare breed studs don't have energy, so if you wanna join efforts, I'm up for it :D

Right now, I'm waiting for a few horses to mature so that I can begin breeding for the Trakehner, Shagya Arabian, Norman Cob, and Hanoverian, since those are closest to the bottom of the tree. What about you?

Awesome! I'm excited to work with you.

My breeding strategy was to focus on breeding the uncommon breeds required for the Murakosi. As you may know, the Murakosi "recipe" is (Ardennais x Percheron) x (Noriker x Hungarian Warmblood). After looking into these breeds, I determined that the one breed that would be hardest to find would be the Hungarian Warmblood. Ardennais' and Percherons are somewhat common, and I think at the time that I was looking there were a few Norikers on the stud market, so the only weak link was Hungarian Warmbloods. So that led to looking into the breeding of Hungarian Warmbloods. Their "recipe" is (Furioso x Kisber Felver) x (Dutch Warmblood x Hanoverian). I was faced with the same situation for the Murakosi "recipe" here. All of these breeds, save the Kisber Felver, is attianable, whther it be through stud markets or sales. So, I had to move on to breeding Kisber Felvers. This is getting quite repetitive, isn't it? :lol: The "recipe" of sorts for the Kisber Felver is (Thoroughbred x Gidran) x (Trekhner x Selle Francais). Yet again, the same situation. The Gidran breed has 42 active horses, with two studs on the market, both of which have no energy. Luckily, the Gidran has an easy recipe: (Thoroughbred x Shagya Arabian) x Anglo-Arabian. So, to answer your question, I am currently trying to breed Gidrans, although it is taking a lot of my patience... :lol: My approach might not be of any use to you, though, since you are wanting to breed all of these breeds yourself, unless I have understood something incorrectly. My offer still stands, though, for when you are in need of a Gidran (and when I have actually bred one... :lol: ).

Haha yeah I was kind of amused by how repetitive the tree is, too. Same to you, though, I'll focus on breeding the other base rare breeds and maybe we can mix 'em up together after we get some plausible foals! In a while, of course. :lol:

Ok, here's a list of what I'm breeding so far:

-Maturing-

[horse=] R&B Painted Silver [/horse]
My Arabian x Thoroughbred filly, pretty low HGP but that can be bred out later.

[horse=] R&B Sterling Hope [/horse]
My Turkmene x Mongolian colt, also low HGP, will breed to Arab x Thor to try for a Trakehner line.

[horse=] Red Pine [/horse]
My Forest Horse x Belgian filly, lower HGP.

[horse=] Adamant Skip [/horse]
My Tarpon x Belgian colt, higher HGP, will breed to Forest x Belgian filly to try for a Norman Cob.

[horse=] Cronus Emerald Candy [/horse]
My younger Thoroughbred filly, higher HGP, will breed maybe to an Anglo-Arab? Aiming for Shagya Arabian, but not a priority atm considering potential Gidran collaboration :D

-Pregnant-

[horse=] Dream Blade [/horse]
My Arabian mare, higher HGP, bred to a Lippizan, was going to use for Shagya Arabian but that will be a while later.

[horse=] Wandering Nightshade [/horse]
My older Thoroughbred mare, higher HGP, bred to a Holstein, hoping for a Hanoverian soon.

Those are all the active breeding horses, also on my second acct.

Yup! I breed half the horses on this acct and half on the other.
