Confused: Brown or Very Dark Chestnut?

His foal coat was clearly Mealy Chestnut but he has darkened considerably. I am still learning the genetics of this game and am not sure about whether this is a very dark or a true brown?

Black horses with Agouti look similar to chestnut horses when they're still small, yes.
Your horse's lower legs and mane/tail darkened to a true black, so we can eliminate chestnut as a possibility. My guess is that he's mealy brown.
