Can't figure this little lady out

Post by Purple Lightning »

Her dam is a buckskin, and her sire is a chestnut...so what on earth is she??? She obviously can't be a double cream...what genes could lay hidden and suddenly manifest themselves like this? Her granddam is my amber champagne, but champagne can't lie hidden can it? She has me stumped. :?

I'm sure it's something obvious, but I haven't figured it out, haha.

She's definitely double cream, either with a brown or black base. I'm not an expert on differentiating between the two yet. :? I don't think she carries champagne either. Her dam has one cream gene, but her grandsire has two, so she could have gotten hers from him :)

This filly is indeed a double dilute, though not a double cream. She did get her mother's single cream gene, but since cream can't hide on a base color, but pearl can, this filly is a cream and pearl. Her sire, the chestnut MUST have a hidden pearl. Hence the blue eyes making it seem like a double cream.
She appears to be on a black base, there doesn't look to be any color shifting around the stomach, legs or nose, nor does her mane and tail appear lighter than her body, so that rules out both brown and bay and also rules out chestnut.

So she would be smoky black pearl with a single tiger eye gene.

Fascinating! Yeah, I never would have figured that out with the pearl. That great to know for the future. Thank you SO much!
