Testing the Water - Fully Trained Horses on Showing Loan
So, I have been thinking about offering some of my trained horses on showing loan but wanted to test the water regarding the interest in it, and the logistics of it.
I have a good show line of Knabstruppers with all horses being fully trained and gaining titles, but as I don't have the space to keep them all in my breeding project they usually just end up being retired. Which seems a shame to me, as they could help other players out with earning money and building up some points. I have thought about offering them on show loan, but don't want them being bred which does kind of rely on people being totally honest.
The horses I would offer on loan would be fit and fully trained, and hitting over 60% in at least one event. They will have been tried at all events so you know what to enter them in.
Would this be a good idea and help to people at the moment, or would it be better to wait until gelding has been added to the game? Has anyone else tried offering something similar?

Yes it is a great idea!

That’s a great idea! How much would it be, and how would you track the money? By each day or each year on the horse?reyn wrote:So, I have been thinking about offering some of my trained horses on showing loan but wanted to test the water regarding the interest in it, and the logistics of it.

I wouldn't ask any money for them, but it would be on the understanding that they are still my horses and are not to be bred. Any money won from showing would belong to the person loaning the horse.
I have kept for myself a small number of my best horses that are on the leaderboards, but I have so many fully trained horses I end up retiring to free up space, it just seems a shame to waste them when they could help less established players start earning some decent money.

Re: Testing the Water - Fully Trained Horses on Showing Loan
I think it's a good idea, but I also think there is some large downsides as well. Personally, I think waiting for gelding/sterilization would be appropriate.
You'll run the risk of the person leaving the game (for whatever reason), breeding (even accidental), aging out (depending on the person), rehoming (for those with no children at all, accidental rehoming of my horses by my own hand has even happened to me), reselling (I don't need to say anything further), and also accidental sales.
I think this could be most helpful for returnees. Those that know the game well enough to avoid some of the downsides.
Plus I'd do time limits, for instance a week, two weeks or a month. That helps to guarantee that the player won't just forget about the game. It also puts a 'squeeze' on them to enter as often as they can until the time limit expires.
But that's my opinions.

Yeah, it's really just about the breeding for me which is my main worry when offering a scheme like this. They would be horses I have finished breeding from and would otherwise be retired, so could be retained as long as the loaner wished for. So if they were to accidentally be retired it wouldn't be the end of the world, I would just prefer that didn't happen and they were returned to me when no longer needed. I hadn't thought about the aspect of reselling though, which is also something I would expect not to happen.... I guess really it would be about folk being completely honest, but that could be difficult with new players who haven't really built up a reputation yet. Hmmm.

Yeah, I would suggest only loaning horses to players who have been on here for a longer time.
