Strategy advice for newbie

Post by Rosa Parks »

I searched the forums but didn’t find answers to this particular question - what’s a good strategy for getting your farm off the ground for a new player and for getting good horses? I know I should train and care for my starter horses every day and there was good advice for training. But should I just keep the starters as “grinders” for local shows? What skill points should I be getting first? How do I recognize a good horse for sale and when do I know one of my horses stands a chance in player competitions? But most importantly I want to know what I should be investing my time and money into right off the bat.

Also, with limited time in the day what is your routines? Do you only put certain horses into local shows? Do you try to show all of them? Etc.

If you want to get a head-start right off the bat, I recommend purchasing one of the many high HGP (Horse Genetic Potential) Arabians that are offered for sale for basically nothing (1-5k each for a horse with 70k+ HGP). Once trained they will easily win level 10 local shows in Endurance and can be used to regenerate days, gain pony tokens and generate some income. Since you'll be training them yourself you can also get some practice in in this regard. Many of these horses will also do fine in player competitions at the lower levels, but will begin to struggle after level 5 or so.

Dont spend your pony tokens. Save them for upgrade.

Dont Go all breeding happy. Buy good horses right now. You cant rehome a horse that has a foal. So if you cant sell it you have to age it out to make room for another horse.

Do all your skills. Starting with ones that give your more horses/space.

Dont be afraid to advance to the next day.

Buy one already trained for a fair price. Shop around.

Dont get stuck on a breed (right now). I made most of my money with grades to start.

Local shows best, fastest way to make money and tokens.
