Ah, yes I see. So you think that I shouldn't list them as private studs since they are mainly for the purpose of coat breeding?BlackOak2 wrote:When it a stud is up with the description 'Private Stud', especially if the words accompany it include such words as Please and Thank You, our community does attempt to avoid such breedings out of courtesy.NBK wrote:
Alright, sounds good. I plan to first start them off at Private stud. But most of the time I get no business then...
So if it says Private Stud, you won't get much business.
I agree with what was said before my post.
It's tough when determining value or price on either studding or sale prices.
It always comes down to 'What makes My Stud or Sale Horse different from others?"
Keep that in mind and don't forget to publish the answer when you post or advertise your horse. The better production he (or they) have, the more lucrative and higher value they can attain.
Also, if you're publishing them as color studs, it might help to have not only the genetic makeup in view for easy access, but maybe also describe the colors that will likely be thrown.

Re: Value?
You should list them as you would prefer them to be used.NBK wrote:

If you want a type of 'mare approval', then you could apply a higher price tag. It will restrict only those with the money to breed, but it won't really restrict what colors that come out of it.
If you want to limit to color breeding, then by all means, put in the ad, in the advertising forum and also include something in the owner's notes about how to breed like colors like him (you'll need to apply a list of genes that the mare will have to carry or also display for the chance to have the appropriate colors).
You could... ask as a courtesy to approve the mares first. I don't know how this will work, you'll at least need a link in the ad to the advertising forum. You'll have 'approved' mares that appear in the forum and their get, and then you'll also have 'unapproved' foals from mares that bred without the courtesy that likely won't offer what the colors that your horse could throw.
This courtesy approval seems like a long process and likely may dissuade a lot of potential customers. Perhaps offer something in return for going through this process... a discounted foal... breeding... training... something like that.
Personally, if I was placing a color stud up for strictly color purposes, I'd apply all the ways to essentially duplicate his look. Until the approved mares comes out, I'd ignore the process of mare approval, apply a higher breeding price to deter random breeding, or have a limited at-stud period (24-hour trial time or something similar). In the limited at-stud period, you can advertise for when he'll be up and at what price so the players that might want to get in on it, can plan to be online during that time.

Oh, I never thought of the idea of having specific times I will have him open for public stud. That is a really smart idea. I think I will just start out with advertising him at a higher price and then put the link to my forum in case people are looking for a cheaper price. Thank you so much for your help.
